To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, RALPH HooKENHULL,

' a citizen of the United States, residing at Currie, in the county of Murray and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Corn-Husking Implements, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to corn husking implements and has for its primary object to provide a device of simple construction which may be worn on the left hand and which will be comfortable to the user and capable of removing the husks from the corn by a simple movement, thereby obviating the necessity of striking the corn several times as has heretofore been the custom.

A further object of the device is theprovision of a cover for the palm of the left hand of the person husking the corn, the palm covering carrying oppositely disposed husking hooks which are adapted to clench the husks and thereby quickly remove them.

The above and additional objects are accomplished by such means as are illustrated in the preferred embodiment and in the accompanying drawings, wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, in which Figure 1 is an elevation showing the device applied to the left hand. Fig. 2 is a plan of the back of the device.

In carrying out my invention I provide a hand covering which is constructed of raw hide or other suitable and durable material which consists of the palm covering 1 terminating at one end in the wrist strap 2. One terminal of the wrist strap is provided with a buckle 3 which is adapted to receive the end 4 of the wrist strap for fastening the wrist strap around the wrist of the operator. Adjacent one end of the wrist strap is fixed a buckle 4 which receives one end of a thumb strap 5 whereby the device may be secured at the back ofthe hand for allowing the free use of the thumb of the operator. Adjacent the forward end of the palm strap and extending from one side thereof are the fastening straps 6 and 7 which are provided with buckles 8 and 9 at their free ends. At the opposite side of the palm covering 1 are the opposite ends 10 and 11 of the fastening straps which are provided with the usual apertures for receiving the buckles 8 and 9 whereby they may be secured to the back of the hand of the user of the device.

It is particularly pointed out that the bending movement of the hands at the center of the palm is not impeded by any obstructions; the raw hide covering or other material being pl ant to enable the operatorto tightly close his hand upon the ear of corn to be husked. Mounted at the opposite side of the center of the palm covering 1 are the hooks 18 and 18, the hooks 18 being arranged in pairs and secured to a single fastening plate 20 which is riveted to the palm covering 1 while the single hook 19 is integrally formed with the fastening 20 which is also riveted to the palm covering 1. In the operation of the device it will be observed that the hooks 1.3 and 17 are pointed toward the center of the hand while the hooks 18 and 19 are also pointed toward the center of the hand covering. Thus all of the hooks will tightly grip the husks when the hand is closed upon the ear of corn. A clenching movement is exerted by the left hand while the right hand of the operator strikes the corn a sharp blow, thereby, at one motion, ridding the ear of corn of the husks.

In reduction to practice I have found that the form of my invention illustrated in-the drawings and referred to in the above description, as the preferred embodiment, is the most eflicient and practicable; yet realizing that the conditions concurrent with the adoption of my device will necessarily parts may be resorted to, when required,

without sacrificing any of the advantages of my invention as defined in the appended claims.

I claim:

1. In a corn husking implement, the com bination with a hand covering, a plurality of hook members including single, double, and triple hooks, the triple hook and one double hook member being mounted in assembled position and secured to the forward edge of the hand covering whereby they will be disposed over the fingers of the hand, and the single and another double hook ele ment assembled together and secured to said hand covering for disposing the same at the center of the palm of the hand, the said hooks of the members at the edge of the hand covering having their points directed toward the spaces between the points of the hook members disposed near the palm of the hand whereby the points of the hooks disposed at the palm of the hand will enter the spaces between the hooks at the forward edge of the hand covering.

In a corn husking'implement, the combination with a hand covering of pliable material, a plurality of hook elements mounted adjacent the end of the palm covering, said hook element comprising a triple and double hook member having their points directed toward the center ofsaid hand covering, the hooks on said double hook member being disposed in longitudinal alinement with I the spaces between the hooks of the triple hook member, single and double hook mem bers secured to the center of the hand covof the triple hook member and the hooks of the double hook member being in alinement with the hooks of the first mentioned double hook member whereby the point of the hook of the single hook member will enter the spaces between the hooks of the double hook member at the forward edge of the hand covering and the hooks of the double hook member at the center of the hand covering will enterthe spaces between the point of the hooks between the triple hook members at the forward end of the hand covering when the hand is bent.

3. In a corn husking implement, the combination with a hand covering, a plate having triple hooks integrally formed therewith, said plate being secured to one end of the said hand covering, a pair of double hook members, one fixed adjacent to the said triple hook member and the other secured to the center of the said hand covering, a single hook member mounted adjacent the double hook member and the center of said hand covering, and a reinforcing plate secured to the back of said hand covering and receiving the fastening element of said triple hook members, the points of the said single hook member and the double hook member at the palm of the hand being adapted to cooperate with the spaces between the points of the double hook member and the triple hook member at the forward edge of the hand covering when the hand is bent.
