N. J. JOHANSON.
TRACE CARRIER. No. 427,422. Patented May 6, 1890.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
NILS JOHAN JOHANSON, OF OOALA, FLORIDA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO \V. S. BULLOCK,
OF SAME PLACE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 427,422, dated May 6, 1890.
Application filed October 16,1889. Serial No, 327,160. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, NILs J OHAN J OHANSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ocala, in the county of Marion and State of Florida, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in 'lrace-Carriers for Plow- Harness; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in to the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanyin g drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form apart of this specification.
The special object of the invention is to combine the clasp or tongue-piece of a tracecarrier with its frame, so that said clasp may be easily put in or taken out, as hereinafter described.
Figure 1. of the drawings is a side elevation of my carrier with trace attached; Fig. 2, a detail perspective view of the frame of the clasp; Fig. 3, a similar View of the clasp, and Fig. 4 a similar view of the clasp and frame with the former turned up.
In the drawings, A represents the frame provided with the upper slot a, lower slot to, intermediate plate a and hearings or side pieces a a The latter have the holes a. a
exactly opposite to each other for the purpose of receiving the clasp-trunnions b I), one of which is longer than the'other to facilitate their insertion or removal.
The clasp B has on the rear bar b at the 3 5 under side thereof, the teeth 6 which nearly touch the plate a when the front bar I) is pressed down thereon. This causes the canvas or other fabric band to be tightly held in slots at a and on the plate a The teeth b may be forwardly inclined on the bottom, or 40 the plate a may gradually increase in thickness from bottom to top, so that the teeth of clasp may bite more forcibly on the canvas. Between the bars D Z) of the clasp is an opening for the finger for convenience in taking hold of and lifting, as shown in Fig. 4
of the drawings.
D is the hook, on which is caught a link of the trace-chain E, so as to hold up the tracechains when plowing, harrowing, or cultivat- 5o ing the soil.
The combined clasp, hook, and frame are preferably made of metal, so as to secure both the necessary strength and the greatest durability. 5 5
Having thus described all that is necessary to a full nnderstandin g of my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is-
The combination. with the frame A, having the hook D, slots 0 a, intermediate plate a and side pieces a a having holes a a, of the clasp or tongue piece B, having trunnions of unequal length to allow said clasp to be conveniently put in or taken out, as and for the purpose described.
In testimony whereof I afilx my signature in presence of two witnesses.
NILS J OHAN JOHANSON.
