N0. 7I7,377. Patented D66. 30, I902.
' v C. E. FLANDERS.
CURBYCOMB 0B CARDGLEANER.
(Application filed Oct 16, 1902.)
(No Modem 7 ZZZ a 7702 22 3 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES E. FLANDERS, OF POST MILLS, VERMONT.
CURRYCOMB 0R CARD-CLEANER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 717,377, dated December 30, 1902. Application filed Octtbtr 16. 1902. Serial No. 127,598. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLES E. FLANDERS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Post Mills, in the county of Orange and State of Vermont, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ourrycombs or Gard- Oleaners; and I do declare the followingto be a full, clear, and exact description ofthe invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. 7
This invention relates to a currycomb or card-cleaner. I V
The object is to provide a device of this kind which is simple of construction, efficient in use, comparatively inexpensive of production, and designed to provide an attachment which may be applied to any ordinary currycomb or card support in a simple and convenient manner. a
With this andother objects in view the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a bottom plan view of a curry-card embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a section of the same on line 2 2 of Fig. 1. Fig.3 is a detail view of the cleaner detached; Fig. 4 is a detail view showing a modification.
The drawings show the application of the invention to a card of ordinary form used:
for currying horses and cattle; but it will-be understood that the device is equally applicable to any ordinary form of currycomb.
1 in the drawings represents the back of a currycomb or card, 2 its handle, and 3 the comb-surface, which may be of any approved construction.
4. denotes the cleaner, consisting of a rectangular plate or frame provided with spaced parallel rods'or strands 5, forming a forami-' nous surface through which the teeth of the comb-surface project when the cleaner is applied to the comb, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. At one side this plate or frame is provided with a right-angular loop 6, adapted to engage the handle 2, and at its other side said plate or frame has a spring-clasp 7, adapted to engage the back 1, whereby the cleaner is detachably held in position on the comb.
In applying the cleaner the loop 6 is slipped onto the handle 2 and adjusted to the inner end of the same to bring the plate 4zover the comb-surface, when said plate is depressed to cause the teeth to project therethrough and the clasp 7 engaged with the back 1. To detach the cleaner, it is simply necessary to first release the clasp 7, raise the plate Lfree of the teeth, and slide the cleaner off the handle 2. In this manner the device is made applicable to and removable from any ordinary cleaning-card or currycomb. In use the hairs, dirt, &c. removed from the animal are caught in between the teeth and foraminous portion of the cleaner-plate, which latter prevents the same from packing, whereby when the back 1 is struck against a post or other objectthe removed matter will be. dislodged from the teeth and drop from the comb, this operation being facilitated by a limited vibra tory action of the cleaner-plate set up when the back is struck against the object.
Fig. 4 shows a modification in which the foraminoussurface of the cleaner plate is produced by forming the plate with rows of apertures 5', through which the comb'or card teeth are designed to project in an obvious manner.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings,
the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of constructionmay be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.
Having thus described myinvention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- The combination with a currycomb or card, of a cleaner comprising a foraminous frame provided at one side with a clasp to engage the back or body of the comb or card and at its opposite side with an angular loop adapted to slide upon the handle of the comb or card and to embrace said handle adjacent to my hand in presence of two subscribing witsaid back or body of the comb or card, wherenesses.
by the cleaner is detaohably secured in place and is made susceptible of application to any CHARLES FLANDERS' 5 ordinary comb or card, substantially as de Witnesses:
scribed. RoLLIN I-I. HUTCH,
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set A. H. COLTON.
