Application filed .Tune 10, 1916. Serial No.`102,999.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, Josnrrr G. S'rANncKY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Cicero, county of Cook, and State of forming a part of this specification, and in which,
Figure 1 is a side view of the brush shown in one position of use,
Fig. 2, a side view thereof shown in position for carrying in the pocket,
Fig. 3, a side view of the brush, shown partially in section, and in a different position of use, and
Fig. 4, a transverse section of the brush, as shown in Fig. 3.` j
The preferred form of construction, as illustrated in the drawings, comprises two similar brush sections each consisting of a body 5 having a central bore 6 and a brush block 7 let into one side thereof and carrying brush bristles 8. A section of tension spring 9 is arranged inthe bore of each body 5, stop sleeves or thimbles 10 being secured in the ends of the bore to prevent removal of the spring. The springs 9 are connected together at their ends by means of chains 11, as indicated, so as to effect a yielding and pivotal connection between the brush sections. One ofthe brush bodies 5 is provided with a plurality of projections it is desired to use the brush, it may be readily adjusted to the position shown in Fig. 1, or the position shown in Figs. 3 and 4, or t0 various other positions suitable for different conditions of use. The specific arrangement is a simple one for the purpose and. capable of economicalmanufacture.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into" effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention.
I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. A brush comprising two brush sections,
and means for positively holding said sections in different relative positions consisting of cooperating means on said sections and means yicldably drawing said sections into engagement, substantially as described.
2. A brush comprising two brush sections, and means for positively holding said sections in different angular positions relative to each other, consisting of interlocking means on said sectionsand means yieldably drawing said sections into engagement, substantially as described.
3. A brush comprising two similar brush sections, each provided with a central bore extending" through the body thereof; a spring located in each of said bores; and flexible connections between the ends of said springs, substantially as described. Y
4. A brush comprising two similarbrush sections, each provided with a central bore extending through the body thereof; a spring located in each of said bores; flexible connections betweenthe ends of said springs; and positioning projections on thebody of one of said brush sections, there being corresponding sockets in the body of the other brush section to receive said projections, substantially as described.
5. A brush comprising two brush sections each consisting of a body portion, polygonal in cross section, and bristles projecting from one side thereof, the other faces of one body being provided With .sockets and the coirename to this specification in thepresence of' spondin'g faoesyof the otherl being provided tWo subserlbmg Witnesses. with p1-o]eot1ons adapted to enga-ge 1n said sockets, and means for holding said body JOSEPH G' STANECKY' 5 portions"inyielding engagement, substan- Witnesses:
tially as described. JOSHUA R. H. Poms,
In testimony whereof I have signed my B. G. RICHARDS.
Gopies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents.
