STUlVIP-ROLLER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 8, 1 913.
Application filed August 21, 1912. Serial No. 716,336.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ROY HUKILL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oak Point, in the county of Cowlitz and State of lVashington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stump-Rollers, of which the following is a specification, referones being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to stump rollers and has for its object the production of a simple and efficient device which is adapted to be carried by the stump for allowing the free passing of the cable there around.
Another object of this invention is the production of a simple and el'licient means for guiding the cable upon the central por tion of the roller and preventing the same from becoming entangled at the end portions of the roller.
lVith these and other objects in view, this invention consists of certain novel combina tions, constructions and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing: Figure l is a side elevation of the device as used in combination with a stump, showing a portion of the same in sections. Fig. 2, is a front elevation of the device. Fig. 3, is 2. top plan view of the device.
Referring to the accompanying drawing by numerals it will be seen that the device is used in combination with a stump 1 which is provided with a rectangular pocket 2. The device consists of the frame 3 which is substantially U-shaped. The outer portion of the frame 3 is provided with the laterally extending flange members 4 in which there are formed a plurality of apertures 5. When the frame is placed in position within the pocket 2, the flanges l: will rest upon the outer face of the stump at which time the securing screws (3 may be passed through the apertures 5 for holding the frame in position.
Positioned within the U-shaped frame 8 there is provided a roller 7 having a concave face 8. This roller 7 is held upon the pin 9 so as to freely rotate thereon. The pin 9 is held within the frame by means of the laterally extending pin 10, whereby the roller will be held centrally within the frame 3. The transverse pin 10 passing through the U-shaped frame 3 and one end of the pin 9 as shown in Figs. 1 and 3, thereby holding the pin 9 firmly within the frame 3 against rotation therein, but since the roller 7 loosely mounted upon the pin 9 it may revolve freely thereon. This frame 3 is also provided with enlarged portions 11 adjacent the flange portions 4:. These enlarged portions 11 are provided with concave faces 12 and constitute an ellicient means for guiding the cable 13 upon the roller 7 It will be seen that by use of this concave face there is provided considerable distance for placing the cable 15 upon the roller, and the enlarged portions 11 will also constitute a simple and eflicientmeans for preventing the cable from becoming entangled or crowded between the end portion of the roller and the inner portion of the frame.
From the foregoing description, it will be seen that a simple device has been produced which is adapted to allow a cable to be passed easily around a stump.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is
In a stump roller, the combination with a support provided with a pocket portion, a U-shaped frame positioned within said pocket, said frame provided with laterally extending flanges, means passing through said flanges for securing the device upon said support, a roller provided with a concave face rotatably mounted within said casing, said casing provided with an enlarged portion adjacent said flanges, said enlarged portions provided with a concave face for guiding a cable upon the central portion of said roller, said enlarged portions overhanging the ends of said roller for preventing the cable from becoming crowded or entangled between the ends of said roller and said frame.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ROY lV. l-TUKILL. llitnesses H. E. llloKmvvnv, J. M. .Avnns.
