Description

(No Model.)
0. N. GHOATE. SEED BAG HOLDER.
Patented June 28, 1898:.
Bf Mm rrn CHARLES N. CHOATE, OF GREENVIIJLE, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR TO THE AMERICAN I-IARROW COMPANY, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
SEED-BAG HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 606,274, dated June 28, 1898.
Application filed May 26, 1897. Serial No. 638,182. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, CHARLES N. CHOATE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Green ville, in the county of Montcalm and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Seed-Bag Holders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
The invention consists in the construction hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View of my seed-bag. Fig. 2 is an elevation of one of the hanger-arms. Fig. 3 is a plan of the top frame.
A is the bag.
13 is a wire frame surrounding the mouth of the bag, Which is of segmental shape, having the inner curved side a, adapted to fit around the body of the wearer, the parallel outer side I), and the substantially radial forward and rear ends a and d.
D and C are hanger-arms for the bags, whichare hinged, respectively, to the forward and rear ends of the frame. Each of these hanger-arms is preferably formed of a single piece of Wire, having a straight portion 6, a loop f or f, bent at right angles thereto, .the portion g, extending parallel and adjacent to the part 6, and the inclined portion h. The ends of the wire are provided With eyes 7 j, which are bent around the ends of the wire frame 13. When these hangers D and C are secured to the frame, they will extend upward in line with the inner side of the bag, the loop f of the rear hanger C projecting outward and having secured thereto a strap or band E, which is adapted to pass over the shoulder of the wearer and through the loop f of the hanger D, said loop being bent at an angle to the plane of the hanger, so as to be in a plane substantially parallel to the loop f of the hanger C. A buckle or other suitable securing means is provided for the strap after passing through the loop f.
E is a strap secured to the arm (2 of the hanger C and adapted to form a girth for securing the bag to the body of the wearer.
W'ith a bag thus constructed when not in use the hanger-arms D and C may be folded down into the plane of the frame B and the bag stored in a compact space.
In use the bag is secured to the body of the wearer, as before described, by the straps E and F, and yet when thus securedis still free to adjust itself to the movements of the body by reason of thehinged connection between the hangers and the frame 13., The shape of these hangersis such as to support the mouth of the bag from sagging without interfering with the hand of the operator in passing in or out of the bag, as the angular bend of the loop f permits it to be close to the body, and the inclined portion h does not extend high enough to interfere.
What I claim as my invention is- The combination with the bag havinga seg mental wire frame secured thereto surrounding the mouth of the bag and adapted to fit around the body of the wearer, of hangerarms hinged to the ends of said frame formed of MIIG and each comprising the portion e, the loop f bent at right angles thereto, the portion g parallel and adjacent to the portion 6, the outwardly extending portion h and the eyes i and j at each end and bent around the wire of the frame, and the shoulder-strap adapted to be secured to said loops.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
CHARLES N. CHOATE.
Witnesses:
CHARLES W. Ronenn, W. D. FELLOWS.
