Description

@einen tatra getraut @frn ADOLPH DELKESGAMP, OF BROOKLYN, lNEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO THEODORE D. DAY, VOF NEW YORKVOITY.
Letters Patent No. 63,867, dated April 1 6, 1867.
IMPROVEMENT IN GLASPS IOR HOOP-SKIRTS.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, ADOLPH DELKESGAMP, f Brooklyn, in the county of Kings, and State of New York, have invented, made, and applied to use a certain new and useful Improvement in Buttons or Clasps for Skeleton Skirts: and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description ofthe said invention, reference being had to the annexed drawing, making part, of this specification, wherein- Figure 1 is a view of the piece of sheet metal as cut out to form the button or clasp.
Figure 2 is an elevation of the same as applied to a portion of a skirt; and
Figure 3 is a section of said button and the skirt facing.
These figures are in larger size than the actual articles usually are, in order to show the button or clasp ,more clearly, and similar marks of reference denote the sameparts.
In the manufacture of skeleton skirts there is a space at the upper portion, where the hoops4 do not extend all the way around, and the ends of the bustle-hoops are united to each other by a facing, usually of kid, and button clasps are employed to hold the facing to the ends of said bustle-hoops. 4These button clasps haveheretofore been made withhemispherical heads, from which teeth project that penetrate and clasp the facing to the hoops. The edges of the sheet metal, forming the heinispherical head, very often cut through and injure Vthe kid facing.- l l The nature of my said invention consists in a button or clasp for skeleton skirts formed with an ornamental flange around the hemispheri'cal or raised hea-d, and with teeth to penetrate the facing or tape and clasp the hoop. This flange around the raised head prevents the kid Vor other material being cut through or injured by the clasp-button, and gives an ornamental finish to the said button. v
In the drawing, 'ai represents a portion of the facing of the skirt over the ends of lthe bustle-hoops 17. c
is myvimproved button or clasp with the hemispherical or raised head, I, with the surrounding ornamental flange 2, and penetrating teeth 3,the same being cut out by dies and struck up to shape, and applied to hold the facing to the hoops as aforesaid. This button, with the raised head, may be made single, as shown, or with two united together. My button or clasp is a better article than those heretoforemade, rendering the skirt more durable, and hence is a new and useful article of manufacture. The flange 2, surrounding the raised head, may be of anydesired shape or width, and in 6g. 4 I have shownthe same with broader anges than in the other lfigures. This button or clasp may be used on any part of the skirt to hold the hoops and tapes together.
What l claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The button or clasp for skeleton skirts, formed with the flange 2, the raised head 1,and the lteeth 3, as and for the purposes speciiied.
In witnesss whereof I have hereunto set my signature this eighth day of June, A. D. 18166.
