4 Be it known thatyI, JAMES, BOWEItSjof the eity, cennty, and State of New York, have invented anew and improved Fastening forC-orsets; and I do hereby declare that :the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof,- which will enableothers skilled in the art to make and use the samepret'erence being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.

This invention relates ten new and improved fastening for that kind of stays or'eorsets which are composed of two pi rts, connected by' a'lacing at the rear part and by a. fastening at the front, which will admit of the front ends of the two parts being readily connected and disconnected. The objeotof the invention is to obtain a. fastening for the purpose specified, which will admit of the front ends of the two parts of the corsets being 7 connected and disconnected with .the greatest facility, and which will be perfectly independent of the springs, so that the latter can at any time when required be drawn from the corsets to admit or the latter being washed, repaired, etcl, it being essential that the springs be withdrawn when the corsets are to be washed, otherwise the springs wouldrust and soil the fabric. in the accompanying sheet of drawings--- Figure l is 25. front view of my invention applied to stays or corsets.

.Similar lettersof reference indicate like parts. H I l A A represent the two parts of a' pair of stays or corsets, and!) b the hours, which contain the springs 13 B. In one part, A, of the corsets, at the inner side of its hem, b, there are inserted eyelets, G, and to the front edge of the other part A there are attached by loops, e, metal plates, (I, having each two hooks, e.,'-at their outer ends. These plates 12 are perfectly. flat, or are planes, and of sufiicient length to reach or extend over the hem and spring of the opposite part, so that the hooks e may catch into the eyelets C, the plates (1 being quite close to the corsets so as notito project out therefrom. The plates d, with their hooks e, do'not at all interfere-with the spring B of the part to whichthey are attached. The spring of either part may be readily withdrawn from its henrand the springs inserted'iin the hems withoiit ainy dilficulty'whate ver. .The eyelet/s 0 of course must be inserted in the part A at points to correspond with the position'of the hooks c, which are to fit .into them. Two

or more of these fastenin'gs may b e'appliedto the corsets; in gei eralthree will probably be nsed.

I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A fastening for stays or corsets, composed of eyelets C, inserted in one of the parts A just behind its hem b, and plates (1, formed or provided with hooks e, and attachedby loops 0 to the front edge of the other part A, substantially as herein'shown and described. 1
