IMPROVEMENT IN COATS.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONOERN:
Be it known that I, PHILIP COHEN, of St. Joseph, in thev county otn Buchanan, and State of Missouri, have invented a new and improved Coat; and that the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, hereinafter referred to, forms a full and exact specification of -the same, wherein'I have set forth the nature and principles of my said improvements, by which my invention may be distinguished from all others of asimilar class, together with such parts as I claim, and desire to have secured to me by Letters Patent.-
The present invention rela-tes to a coat, and the invention consists in making the coat in such manner that it can he adapted as a frock or as a dress-coa.t. v
In the accompanying plate of drawings my improvement in coats is illustrated by a view ofthe inside of' a coat made according thereto, showing one tail to the coat in shape for a dress-coat andthe other for a freek-coat.
A, in the drawings, represents a coat which', except so far as the present invention extends, is to he made in the ordinary manner. B, the teils to the coat, which are made of suitable shape, that when laid out smooth or fiat they willform a frock or walking-coat. In lien of permanently securing or stitching the tails of the coat to its waist portion O for the whole length of such waist, they are only permanently sewed for such a portion of the same, that if the remaining portion he folded or lapped over the fixed` portion, a dress-coat can be produced by then simply securing the overlapping portion downin such portion, over which a lining is then placed that is provided with suitablev hooks along its edges for hooking it to the loops thereof. These hooks allow the lining to be detached and attached readily.
When the coat is'to be worn as a freek or walking-coat, its tail-pieces are opened, and then by stitching' sewed in position to the waist portion.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure hy Letters Patent- A coat, the skirt portion of which is made adjustable in size, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
