Quite-3 giants gaunt. @ffirm THOMAS POWELL, OF M IL'ROY, INDIANA.
Leanna: 2%. 3,092; dated March 19, 1867.
IMPROVEMENT IN SLEEVE SUPPORTERS.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONQERN: 1
Be it known that I, THOMAS POWELL, of Milroy, in the county of Rush, and State of Indiana, have invented a new and improved Supporter'for Shirt Sleeves; and I do hereby declare that the following is afull, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, referericmbcing had to the accompanying drawings, forining part of this specification.
The present invention relates to a new and improved supporter, more especially designed for the sleeves of shirts, although it amt he used to advantage-upon the sleeves of other articles of wearing apparel; the object being to produce a supporter for suchuse which will be comfortable and easy to the wearer.-
In the aecom'pan iying plate of drawings my improved shirt-sleeve supporter is villustrated, the figure being a view of the supporter as applied or worn upon the arm.
A, in thedrawings, represents the supporter, which consists of a band, B, made of India rubber or any other suitable elastic material or materials, having at one end a ring or loop, 0, and at its other ahook, D, the
former being secured by stitching or sewing, and the latter bymeans of a buckle, E, or anv other fastening,
which will allow the hook to be adjusted in its position upon the band B. I
When the supporter A is worn it is looped around the arm above the elbow, by passing the end'of the band 13, having the hook through the ring on-loop C, as plainly shown in the drawing, when, fastening thehool: to the end of the slit in the shirt sleeve, th;e necessary support is given to the sleeve upon the arm, and'in such a. manner as to'produce or occasion no uneasy-or uncomfortable feeling to the arm of the wearer. In lieu of the'hook D a button may be used.
I elaimhs new, and desire to secure lp y Letters Patent- The elustichnnd B, provided at one endwith the ring 0, through which it passes after encircling-the artn above the elbow, and having at its lower end the hook D, adapted to catch it in theslit.of the sleeve, as herein described and represented..
' THOMAS POWELL.
I Witnesses ALFRED GIFFORD, THOMAS P. SMITH.
