IMPROVEMENT IN FASTENINGS POR (IORSETS.
TO ALL AIIVHOM I'l MAY GONCERN:
Be it known that I, JAMES P. LOVE, oi` the city, county, und State of New York, have invented a. new and useful Improvement in Corsets; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable othersskilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the .'tcconu-4 panying-drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents a front view partly in section of improved corset.
Figure 2 is a. buck view of one sideV of the sume.
Figure 3, cross-section of the same, taken on the line :u x, fig. 2.
Similar letters'of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates tou new manner of securing the steels or springs in front of the corset, so that the same can be easily-removed from the corset whenever desired, for washing and other purposes, as well es the corset fstenings, which are riveted or otherwise secured to the said springs. The invention consists in laying euch steel between the two ilrtps which are left on the corset, :tud in then hooking the outer Hup to the body of the corset so that the steel is firmly held in place. By simply unhooking the said tlnp, the steel can be et once released from the corset.
A represents the two sides of the front portion of u. corset. A flap, a, is sewed or otherwise secured to each side, extending from the top to the lower end of the corset. The steel spring b is luid between this flap and the ildp e, or extreme edge of the part A, as is clearly shown on the right-hand side in fig. 3. The Hap a is then laid over the steel, so :ts to cover the same, and then the ilztp c is luid over and around the flap a and steel b, as shown on the left-hand side in fig. 3. Hooks dd of suitable constructionv :rre secured to the edges of the Hap c, and eyelets e e in the body A, so that the ilap c can by means of these hooks be held in the position described, and as shown in the drawings. The corset fustenings which usually consist of slotted plzi-tesff, secured on one side, a-nd knobs g y on the other side of the corset, can be riveted or otherwise secured to the steels, und will then be removed with the seme from the corset for washing and other purposes. These fastenings pass through slots in the flap e, and thereby help to steady the steel and to prevent the same from moving up or down.
I claim as new, und desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The manner herein shown-and described of securing the steels b b in corsets, by Ineens of iaps a and c,
and hooks d, and eyelets or button-holes e, all made and operating substantially as und for the purposes herein shown and described.
2. The fasteningsf and g, in combination with the flaps a and c, and steels b, hooks d, and eyelets or holes e, all mede and operating substantielly as herein shown and described.
