Letters Patent N 104,316, dated June 14, 1870.
IMPROVEMENT IN HINGEs.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters-Patent and making part of the saine.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE S. HUnFonD, of Canton, in the county of Stark and in the State ot' Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Hinges and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the` letters of ret"- erence marked thereon.
In the annexed drawings making part of this specification- I A A represent the two parts of a strap-hinge, one of which will be provided with two jaws C O, and the other with a tongue, D, to t between these jaws, as is usual with this kind f hinge. The jaws and tongue 'are bent over the pin which connects the two parts of the hinge together.
B represents one of the pins, which is used with this hinge, and which is provided with a flange, a.
Instead of using a single piu to pass through the two parts of the hinge, I use two pins, which meet at the center of the tongue D, both being provided with flanges.
The jaws C of one portion of the hinge are provided with grooves e e, which are made to correspond in size and depth with the flanges a.
When the jaws C are bent around the pins, the flanges a fit snugly 'within the grooves e e. 'lhe pins by this means are held securely in their places,4 .and cannot be removed from the hinge without straightening out the jaws C C.
Each pin is headed, so that a neat nish is given to the hinge.
Having thus fully described my invention,
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The pins B, provided with langes, and used in cornbination with the jaws C C, of one portion of the hinge provided with grooves e e, as and for the purpose set fort-h.
