TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:

Be it known that I, GEORGE W. LANE, of Plantsville, in the county of Hartford, and State of Connecticut, have invented a newlmprovement in Hinges; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, in-

This invention relates to an improvement in the manner of securing the two parts of the hinge together, und'consists in the peculiar construction of the two parts, which are separable when detached from the door, but inseparablewhen attached to the door crtto whatever it is desired to hinge.

In order to the better understanding of my invention, as well as to enable others to construct the samc,I will proceed to a description thereof as illustrated in the accompanying drawings.

.A is the one part, B is the other part, each provided with screw-holes, and of the form adapted to the purpose for which they are to be used, as in common hinges. The one part, A, iscast with a rounded bar edge, C, and with two or more openings, D, through the plate, close to'the bar C, and at those openings the bar 0 is cylindrical, as seen in fig. 5. The other part, B, is cast'with hooks E, corresponding to the openings D in the plate A, the internal diameter of the said hooks being the some as the diameter of the bar C, so as to hook on to the bar C and pass down into the openings D in the plate A, and so that the two parts when hooked together, asseen in figs. 3 and 4, and attached to two things, F and G, they are inseparable, and the two parts may be turned upon the hinge, as in common hinges.

These two parts are cast separately, and thus are produced without other labor than that required in casting and cleaning,and are therefore ofthe cheapest possible construction; but having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, and dQSiIG iJO secure by Letters Patent, is-- The two parts of the hinge, A. and B, constructed so as to be attached together and operate in the manner described.
