Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 52,907, dated February 27, 1866.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, O. O. TAYLOR, of' Springfield, in the county of Hampden and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Paper Bosoms or' Fronts for Shirts, constituting a new and improved article of wearing-apparel; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying` drawings7 in aking part ot' this specification, in which- Figure l represents a front view, and Fig. 2 a transverse section taken on the line .r so ot' Fig. l. l
My invention consists in forming a paper bosom having a strip secured centrally and vertically to the front representing a plait, and in providing the points or tabs with eyelets, and in using in connection therewith an elastic cord provided with a hook or similar device t'or securin g it in place.
In order to enable those skilled in the art to construct and use my invention I will proceed to describe it.
In the accompanying drawings, A represents the body ot' the bosom, which I make of paper in the usual manner.
B represents a stri-p of the same material secured to the center of the front of the body A in a vertical position, as shown in Fig. 1, to
' represent a plait. This piece may be secured It will be stitch ed or indented to imitate stitching near each edge, as shown at d of Fig. 1. At its upper point a button-hole, c, is made, as shown, to secure it to the shirt-band at the neck in front.
An eyelet, a, is properly inserted and secured in eachv ot' the points that rest upon the shoulder, as shown in Fig. l, to prevent the holes from being` cut or torn by the fastening.
O represents an elastic cord having a T- fasteniug secured to its ends. as shown at b, or it may he provided with a hook, as shown at h. By inserting these fastenings in the eyelets c the bosom is held in place, and at` the same time the elastic cord permits the necessary moveinents'of the head and neck of the wearer without straining or tearing the bosom.
By these means I am enabled to produce av and described.
