Description

UNITED STATES ADOLPH S. SARONI, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN REVERSIBLE NECKSCARFS'.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 37,2117, dated December 23, 1862.
.To a/ZZ whom, it may concern,.-
Be it known that I, ADoLPH'S. SARoNI, of the city, county, land State of New York, have invented certain novel and useful improvements in the construction of scarfs to be worn upon the neck in lieu of a stock or necktie; and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which are lettered to correspond with and form a part of this specification.
In order that the public may be enabled to understand the nature of my invention, and those skilled in the mechanic arts to construct the same, I will describe it, as follows:
Figure l is a front view of the scarf A, which forms a part of the triangular card-board or top B of the scarf, which is secured to the shirt-collar by means of a loop or loops made of elastic or springy material-such as iiat spiral spring or elastic cord S--thereby being held firmly to the neck with ease and comfort to the wearer.
The top or card-board B is thoroughly coated with hatters sizing to prevent it becoming soft or otherwise affected by perspiration. The elastic fastening or loop S is attached to the collar-piece or triangular card-board near the lower end, as shown at e, Fig. l.
The scarf A is sewed to the upper edge of the card-board B, so that either side may be worn in front by simply reversing the card and attaching the elastic loop to the button of the collar, as shown at Fig. l.
The board B is supplied with one or more elastic loops on each side thereof, as shown at S, by which means I have a reversible scarf, which may be of gaudy colors on one side and plain black or any other color on the other side.
The advantages of my reversible scarf are, that it has all the ornamental quality of the stock or cravat without confining the neck, and may be quickly adjusted without the aid of a mirror; at the same time it gives the appearance of a neat necktie without the inconvenience of a bandage around the neck. Therefore, I
What I claim as novel and useful, and what I wish to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
A reversible scarf provided with a neckpiece made of card-board, B, or any other suitable material, coated with hatters7 sizing and provided with an elastic loop or loops, so that the scarf A is properly attached to the collar either side out, at the same time presenting the appearance of a carefullyeadj usted cravat or necktie.
In testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe my name in the presence of two witnesses.
Witnesses: ADOLPH S. SARONI.
CORNELIUS MINOR, J P. McLEAN.
