ZERA VATERS, OF BLOOMINGTON, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENTIN LADIES SKIRT-LIFTERS.
Speeiication forming part of Letters Patent No. 43,613, dated'July 19, 1864.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ZERA WATERS, of the city ot' Bloomington, in the county ot' McLean and State of'Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Skirt-Lifters; and I d0 hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construetion and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part ot'this specification, in which the several parts are designated by letters and numbers as follows, viz:
2 represents a tube with the front part taken oit'. It is made of rubber or other suitable material fastened to or connected -with the zone or belt A, that is to be buckled around thewaist.
3 represents a number of holes, through which a number of strings or tapes, B, pass. These strings or tapes may be lengthened or shortened by moving the slides 5, and are passed through the snap hook 6 in such a manner as to allow the latter to slide freely to its proper place. The eye S is to be fastened to the skirt. rIhe upper ends of the strings (r tapes pass through the holes 3 and tube 2, and are fastened to rings 4. Said rings are furnished with ribbons or tapes 9, that may be tied or lett free, as the operator may desire.
7 represents hooks, upon which the rings 4 may be fastened when it is desired that the skirts remain up any length ot' time, as is shown by O. The belt A should be buckled at the side ot' the operator; then the skirts lnay be raised behind or in front by drawing the back or front strings, and all around by drawing both at once.
