SPECIFICATION forming-part of Letters Patent No. 623,315, dated April 18, 1899.

Be it known that I, PATRICK M. KENNEDY, a citizen of the United States, residing at C0- lumbus, in the county of Franklin and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Suspensories, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to an improvement in suspensories; and the objects of myinvention are to provide an improved construction of suspensory wherein simple and reliable means are provided for insuring the holding of the same in its proper position on the wearer, to so construct and arrange the same as to insure its being retained in place regardless of the movements of the wearer, to provide means for adjusting the supporting straps or tapes, and to produce other improvements, the details of which will be more fully set forth hereinafter. These objects I accomplish in the manner illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved suspensory, and Fig. 2 is a rear view of the lower portion of the same. 7

1 represents the usual scrotu m-supporting sack, which is suspended from the short transverse supporting-strap 2. -IVith each end of the strap 2 is connected a comparatively short strap or tape, the latter being indicated at 3 and 3, the outer end portion of each of which is provided with buttonholes 4:, the desired one of which is engaged with a button 5 on the outer end of a strap, the remaining end of which is secured to the rear side of the sack 1, as indicated at 7, these latter straps being numbered 6 and 6, respectively. From the ends of the transverse tape 2 lead upward straps 8 and S, the outer end portions of which are also provided with a desired number of buttonholes 10. As indicated in the drawings, I secure one end of a shoulder-strap 11 to the rear face of the outer end portion of the strap 6, the remaining end of said shoulder-strap being, as indicated at 12, buttoned into engagement with the outer end of the strap 8. The shoulder-strap loop thus formed has its rear portion crossing and connected with the corresponding portion of a similar shouldenstrap 13, one end of which is, as indicated at 14, buttoned into connection with the outer end of the strap 8, and the remain-.

6 and 3 and 6 and 3 form leg-loops, through which the legs of the body are designed to pass, while the shoulder-straps are designed to pass over the shoulders of the body, and the belt 15 is adapted to embrace the waist. In this manner it will be observed that the support of the suspensory will come directly from the shoulders, while the encircling-belt portion, together with the leg-loops, will combine to retain the sack in its proper position. It will thus be seen that simple, reliable,'and effective means are provided for holding the sack in its proper place regardless of the movements of the body of the wearer, any tendency toward slipping in any direction being obviated. It will also be observed that owing to the adjustable button connection of the various parts of my device the same may be readily adjusted to conform to the body of the wearer. It is obvious that a suspensory of this character may be worn with both safety and comfort and that the same may be pro duced in a neat form at a reasonable cost of manufacture.
