G. E. SI'PP.
MEANS FOR FASTENING NEGKTIES AND UOLLARS T0 SHIRTS.
No. 605,262. Patented June 7,1898. I
T I f STATES:
PATENT rich.
CHRISTOPHER E. SIPP, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent, No. 6Q5,262, dated June 7, 1898.
Application filed October a, 1897;
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHRISTOPHER -E. SIPP, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Means for Fastening Neckties and Collars to the Neckbands of Shirts, of which the following is a full and complete specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to means for fastening the necktie and collar to the neckband of a shirt; and the object thereof is to provide improved means for this purpose, said means consisting of an open spring-ring which is adapted to be passed through loops connected i with the neckband of the shirt, the collar,-
and the necktie; and with these and other objects in view the invention consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which-- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the upper portion of a shirt or of a shirt-front provided with a collar 'and necktie connected there with according to my invention; Fig. 2, a plan view thereof, and Fig. 8 a plan view showing a modification.
In the drawings forming part of this specification the separate parts of my improvement are designated by numerals of reference in each of the views, and in said drawings I have shown at 5 the upper portion of a shirt, or in place thereof an ordinary shirt-front may be employed, and said shirt-front is provided with the usual neckband 6, and I have also shown at 7 an ordinary necktie which is provided with a bow and which is open at 9.
I have also shown at 10a collar, and in the form of construction shown in Fig. 2 this collar is of ordinary form and open at the front, and in the practice of my invention I secure to the outer side of the neckband 6 a plurality of loops 11, and the collar 10 is provided with a plurality of similar loops 12, which are secured to the inner side thereof, and the necktie 7 is provided adjacent to the ends thereof with inwardly-directed metal loops 13, and
' the bow of said tie is provided centrally of serial No. 654,585. (No model.)
formed inthe collar 10, and the loop 14, se-
cured to the bow of the tie, is passed through the tips or ends of the collar, as clearly shown inFig. 2, and in securing the collar and the necktie to the neckband of the shirt I provide an open spring-metal ring 16, whichis passed through the loops 11 on the neckband, the loops 12 on the collar, and the loops 13 and let on the necktie, and the ends of said ring are connected centrally of the back of the neckband, as shown at 17 in Figs. 1 and 2, one end of said ring being provided with a slot or opening and the other with a lug or projection which is passed therethrough. It is not absolutely essential, however, that the ends of this ring be connected, as the ring may be composed of strong spring metal the spring action of which would be sufficient to hold the ends together.
In the form of construction shown in Figs.
1 and 2the neckband of the shirt is open atthe back, as shown at 18, and in Fig. 3 I have shown a modification in which the collar 10 is also open at the back, and in the form of construction shown in-the drawings thecollar 10 is provided in each of the views with the usual front flaps or folds 19; but itwill be apparent that any preferred form or style of collar may be employed.
My improvement is simple in construction and operation and may be employed in connection with shirts the neckbands of which are open either at the front or back, and if desired the ends of the necktie at the back may also be connected, and it will also be apparent that changes in and modifications of the construction herein shown and described may also be made without departing from the spirit ofmy invention or sacrificing its advantages.
Having fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The herein-described means for securing a collar and a necktie to the neckband of a shirt or shirt-front; said means consisting of inwardly-directed loops formed on or secured to the collar, outwardly-directed loops formed on or secured to the neckband, and inwardlydirected loops formed on or, secured to the 1 necktie which are passed inwardly through the collar, and an open spring-ring which is passed through said loops, substantially as shown and described.
, 2. The herein-described means for securing a collar and a necktie to the neckband of a shirt or shirt-front; said means consisting of inwardly-directed loops formed on or secured to the collar,outwardly-directed loops formed on or secured to the neckband, and inwardlydirected loops formed on or secured to the r necktie which are passed inwardly through the collar, and an open spring-ring which is passed through said loops, means attached to IS my invention I have signed my name, in pres- 2o ence of the subscribing witnesses, this 7th day of October, 1897.
