Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 25, 1917.
Application filed September 18, 1916. Serial No. 120,745.
This invention contemplates an improved collar fastening and has as its primary object to provide an arrangement wherein the Vfront of the collar may be connected to the neck band of a shirt without v.the use of the commonly employed collar button, a'nd the invention has as a further object to provide a fastener for the front of the collar in cluding an elastic strip connected with the collar and having a stud secured thereto for engagement through the adjacent button holes of the collar with the said strip adapted to tension the said stud within the said buttonholes.
Other and incidental objects will appear as the description proceeds and in the drawproved fastener and also f of a back fastener for ings wherein I have illustrated the preferred embodiment of the invention and wherein similar reference characters designate* corresponding parts throughout the several views:
Figure 1 is a perspective view showinga collar equipped at the front with my imillustrating the use the collar, this latter fastener, however, Vforming no .part of the present invention, and
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary sectional view f particularly showing the mounting of the fastener at the front of thecollar and the manner in which the said fastener'is adapted for engagement with the neckband `oi? a Y shirt.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, I have illustrated a turnover or roll collar 10 having an inner flap 11 and an outerV ap 12. At one end, the inner Hap is provided with a short Hap 13 in which is formed a buttonhole lfiwhile at the opposite i huttonhole 14:. Formed in t of .the collar,
` jacent the upper edge vextremity of thesaid'strip inclined down- I connected with the collar',
ed a fastener 25, this fastener, however, forming no part of the presentinvention.
Mountedv upon the inner flap 11 of the Collar, adjacent the inner terminal of the fiap 13 is my improved fastener including an elastic strip .or other suitable resilient element 18 connected at its upper extremity to the inner face of the said inner 'flap 'adthereof with the free Wardlyiin the direction of the buttonhole 14 and terminating opposite the said buttonhole. Suitably connected to the free end of the strip 18 is a stud 19 of approved type and in Fig. 2 of the drawings, I have shown the-manner in which the said stud is adapted for engagement with the neck band of a shirt for connecting the front of the collar therewith. The overlapping front ends of the neck band `of the shirt are indicated at4 20 and it will now beobserved that the strip 18 is adapted to extend over the said neck band to support the stud 19 in position to extend through the registering buttonholes in the ends I2O of the neck band and through the registering buttonholes of the fiaps 13 and 15-of the collar for securely connecting the front of the collar with the shirt. This provides an arrangement eliminating the use fof the commonly employed collar button, while, at the same time, the front of the collar may be easily and quickly connected to the shirt. Moreover, attention is directed to the fact that the strip 18 is arranged to normally yieldably pull upwardly upon the inner extremity of the stud 19 and thus tend to tilt the said withinV the registering buttonholes of the ends of the neck band of the shirt as well as the buttonholfes of the i'laps of the collar to consequently bind the said stud within the said buttonholes so'that the collar will not likely become unfastened.
Having thus described the invention, Wh at is claimed as new is:
1. The combination with a collar, of a fastener therefor including an elastic strip and a stud carstud longitudinally Y ried by said strip andarranged to extend through a buttonhole iin the collar for engagement with a shirt.
2. The combination `with a collar having overlapping flaps at its forward side provided with buttonholes adapted to be gg www?? brought 'no register, of a, fastener for the for connecting the collar with the shirt with collzw nduding an elastic strip coxmeciie to the said strip normally pulling upwardly the inner side of the coluu, and a stud czuupon 'the stud for tilting the stud longtud- 10 fied by said strip :m arranged to extend nally and binding the stud Within the said 5 through the reglstorug buttonholes of a, buttonholes.
nook hand of 'u shirt :und through the egs- In testimony whereof I ax my signature.
