Description

PURSE. y
Patented Feb. 16, 1897.
l I Snom/woz a@ @momma l J. W. MYERS.
(No ModeL) UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN IV. MYERS, OF VATERVILLE, OHIO.
PURSE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent'No. 577,057, dated February 16, 1897.
Application filed July 31, 1896. Serial No. 601,165. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom it' may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN V. MYERS, acitizen of the United States, residing at Taterville, in the county of Lucas and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Im provements in Purses; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and eX- act description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to purses; and it consists in the novel construction and combination of the parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front view of the purse. Fig. 2 is a cross-section taken on the line a: in Fig. l.
A is the body of the purse, consisting of a band of liexible material, such as chamois leather, folded double. The front ct is not quite as high as the back d. The body A is divided into compartments or pouches by vertical rows of stitches b.
Three compartments are preferably formed, but any desired number may be used. The middle compartment B, which is a long one, is provided with reinforcing-fiaps c at its ends. Each compartment is provided with a separate ap d at its top, stitched to or otherwise firmly secured to the upper part of the back a.
Each iiap is provided with a means for Asecuring it, such as a strap and buckle d', but any approved fastening device may be used which will prevent the contents of the compartment from working out.
The long compartment is preferably provided with one or more loops c, secured toits iiap, and e' is a fastening-strap secured to one end of the compartment and passed horizontally through the said loops. The strap e engages with a fastening, such as a buckle f, a button, or a catch, at the other end of the compartment and prevents the middle part of the compartment from bulging, as well as forming a means for securing the ap.
This purse is intended to be worn like a belt, and preferably under the outer garments.
G G are straps or bands secured to the ends of the purse for the purpose of securing it about thewaist of its owner. The flap of the middle compartment is not made of the full length of the compartment, and the flaps of the end compartments overlap the ends of the middle compartment. This permits the middle flap to be raised and free access had to the middle compartment without detaching the belt from the body.
What I claim is- 1. In a purse, the combination, With a band of iiexible material provided withalong compartment, of a flap closing the top of the compartment, and reinforcing-flaps at the ends of the said compartment, substantially as set forth.
2. In a purse, the combination, with a band of flexible material provided with a long compartment, of a ap closing the top of the compartment and provided with a depending loop, and a fastening-strap attached to the ends of the said compartment, passing through the end of the said loop, and preventing the middle portion of the compartment from bulging, substantially as set forth.
3. In apurse, the combination, with a band of flexible material provided with a long middle compartment and short end compartments, ofl a iiap closing the center portion of 'the middle compartment, and flaps closing the end compartments andlapping-over the end portions of the said middle compartment, substantially as set forth.
In testimony. whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
H. C. MEIsTER, GEORGE JEFFERS.
