TTORNEYJ di /23w UNITED STATES JOSEPH OMER OHARBONNEAU,
PATENT FFICE.
OF CRANSTON, RHODE ISLAND.
FIRE-HOSE SUPPORT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 575,700, dated January 26, 1897.
Application filed April 8, 1 8 9 6 To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH OMER CHAR- BONNEAU, a citizen of the United States, and aresident of Oranston, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fire -I-Iose Supports, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to supports for firehose; and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class which is simple in construction and operation and by means of which the end of a fire-hose, or that end thereof to which the discharge-nozzle is attached, may be easily held and in such manner as to permit the turning of the nozzle in any desired direction.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which- Figure 1 is a side view of my improved firehose support with part of the construction shown in section; and Fig. 2, a detailed sectional view, the section being taken at right angles to that of Fig. 1.
In the practice of my invention I providea tripod-head or other support A, which is provided with a central vertical socket a, which is shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1, and with downwardly-curved side arms (1 with which are pivotally connected legs B. Any desired number of these legs may be employed, and pivotally connected therewith and near the bottoms thereof are bars or levers b, one of which is provided with a slot 6 and the other with a pivot-pin 19 which passes therethrough, the object of this construction being to contract or expand the legs B, as will be readily understood. I also provide a support D, which may be of any desired shape and in the bottom of which is a transverse slot d, in which is mounted a circular head G, which is provided with a shank g, which is adapted to enter the central vertical bore a in the tripod-head A, and the head G is provided on its upper surface and sides with sprockets or projections g and mounted transversely of said support is a spring-operated rod E, provided with ahead E which is adapted to enter the Serial No. 586,633. (No model.)
notches or recesses 9 between the sprockets or projections g on the head G, and said rod E passes through a cap F, in which the spring H, which operates the rod E, is mounted, and the support D is free to swing on the shafth, which passes centrally through the head G.
The upper end of the support D is provided with a yoke K, in which is mounted a circular sectional band or clamp L, said band or clamp being composed of two partswhich are hinged together at M and which are adapted to be connected by means of a spring-catch or other device at m, and said clamp or band is mounted in the upper end of the yoke by means of trunnions O, which are held in place by caps P or in any desired manner.
In practice the end of the hose with which the nozzle is connected is passed through the clamp or band L, and said clamp or band is free to swing on the yoke K, and the support D, of which said yoke forms a part, is free to swing upon the circular head G, and said circular head G is free to turn on the tripod-head A, and the support D may be held in any desired position on the circular head G by means of the sliding bolt E.
It will thus be seen that I provide an effective hose-support, and one by means of which the end of the hose may be turned in any desired direction, while at the same time being securely supported; and it is evident that changes in and modifications of the constructionhererein described may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificing its advantages.
I-Iaving fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A hose-support consisting of a tripodhead, which is provided with pivoted legs, a circular vertical head pivotally connected therewith, and adapted to swing in a horizontal plane, a support mounted on said circular head, and free to swing in a vertical plane, said support being provided at its upper end with a yoke in which is mounted a band or clamp which is also free to swing in a vertical plane, substantially as shown and described.
2. A hose-support consisting of a tripodhead, which is provided with pivoted legs, a circular vertical head pivotally connected therewith, and adapted to swing in a horizontal plane, a support mounted on said circular head, and free to swing in a vertical plane, said support being provided at its upper end with a yoke in which is mounted a band or clamp which is also free to swing in a vertical plane, and means for locking said support to said circular head, so that the support cannot swing in a vertical plane, substantially as shown and described.
A hose-support consisting of a tripod head, which is provided with pivoted legs, acircular vertical head pivotally connected therewith, and adapted to swing in a horizontal plane, a support mounted in said circular head, and free to swing in a vertical plane, said support being provided at its upper end with a yoke in which is mounted a band or clamp which is also free to swing in a vertical plane, and means for locking said support to said circular head so that the support cannot swing in a vertical plane, consisting of ratchet-teeth formed on the upper part of said circular head, and a spring-0perated 1ocking-bolt which passes through one side of said support, and is adapted to engage with said teeth, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in pres ence of the subscribing witnesses, this 20th day of March, 1806.
