LENGTH-ADJUSTING DEVICE FOR NECKWEAR, 84c.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 560,308, dated May 19, 1896.
Application filed June 6,1895. Serial No. 551,818. (No model.)
To all whom it; may concern.-
Be it known that I, FRANK O. WARD, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Length-Adjusting Devices for Neckwear and other Articles, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.
My invention consists of an improvement in the length-adjusting straps or pieces employed in the bands of neckwear and other articles, avoiding the doubling of such straps or pieces, while reducing the expense of the same and producing a simple and effective device.
Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a necktie having my invention applied thereto. Fig. 2 represents a side elevation of the device on an enlarged scale, including portions of a neckband in section. Fig. 3 represents a section on line 00 m, Fig. 2. Fig. 4 represents a side elevation of the device, including part of the neckband in elevation and section.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
Referring to the drawings, A designates a buckle formed of a frame with a cross-piece centrally therein, as well known.
B designates an elastic strap or piece of elastic material, which is passed through said buckle over said cross-piece, one end of the piece having the ring 0 attached thereto and the other end being hemmed or otherwise thickened, as at D, said ring being adapted for engagement with the hook opposite thereto, or vice versa.
E designates the neckband of a tie, scarf, or other article of neckwear, a portion of the same being hollow, as at F, and receiving part of the elastic piece B, opposite to the ring 0, it being noticed that the buckle A is secured to the lining of the outer end of said portion of the band E, as shown at G. It is evident that the elastic piece B may be moved through the buckle in opposite directions, so as to increase or decrease the length of the part of said piece outside of the band, by which provision the length of the band may be adjusted, it being noticed that the piece B is of a continuous length from end to end and that it is not folded or doubled on itself, thus obviating the thickness in the elastic pieces as heretofore used. The hem D acts as a stop, preventing the end of the strap or piece B from being improperly drawn through the buckle.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A band having a hollow portion, a frame with a cross-piece secured to the end of said band, an elastic strap adjustable on said frame and movable at one end in said portion and provided at the other 'end with an attaching device, substantially as described.
2. A frame with a cross-piece, an elastic strap with a hem on one end and a ring on the other end, said strap being adjustable in said frame, in combination with a band, one end of which is hollow, inolosin g the hem end of said strap, the other end being provided with a hook adapted to engage said ring, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
3. The frame A, and the single-length elastic strap B, adjustable in said frame and having at one end the stop D, and at the other end the fastening device 0, and a hollow band the ends of the strap being on opposite sides of said frame, the end withthe stop movably occupying said band to which the frame is secured at G, substantially as described.
4. A frame, an elastic strap adjustable on saidframe, and a band with a hollow portion to whose end said frame is secured, the ends of said strap being free on opposite sides of theframe, and one end movably occupying said hollow portion, substantially as described.
