JAMES T. ANDREW, OF MONTGOMERY, ALABAMA.
TROUSERS-BRACE AND STOCKING-SUPPORT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 6, 1906.
Application filed January 24, 1906. Serial No. 297.580.
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, JAMES T. ANDREW, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Montgomery, in the county of Montgomery and State of Alabama, have invented a new and Improved Trousers-Brace and Stocking Support, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to improvements in combined trousers-braces and stocking or sock supporters, the object being to provide a device of this character that will prevent the trousers from bagging at the knee and also to maintain the front crease of the trousers-legs for a considerable length of time, thus preventing frequent pressing.
I will describe a trousers-brace and stocking support emb odying my invention and then point out the novel features in the appended claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both figures.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a trousers brace and stocking-support embodying my invention, showing the same in position; and Fig. 2 is a front view of the device.
It is quite obvious that a device embodying my invention will be used in each leg of trousers. A description of one, however, will answer for both.
The device comprises a pad 1, designed to engage over the knee. This pad consists of any suitable material having sufficient flexibility. The upper end of the pad 1 is connected to a wire 2, and the lower end is connected to a wire 3. These wires are bowshaped, practically conforming to a persons leg at the knee. Connected to the end of the wires 2 and 3 are coiled springs 4, on the ends of which are clips 5, designed to be engaged with the inner and outer hems of the trousersle I Extending vertically along the center of the pad at the front is a brace 6, consisting of spring-wire, the said brace being connected at its ends to the bows or wires 2 and 3 and at the center passes througha loop 7, attached to the pad 1.
Secured to the upper end of the pad is an adjustable elastic strap 8, having a fastening device for engaging with the pocket of the trousers, as indicated in Fig. 1. As here shown, this fastening device is in the form of a safety pin 9, although it is to be understood I do not limit my invention to such form.
Extended downward from the bow or Wire 3 and practically forming a continuation of the wire 6 is a yielding wire 10, and slidable on the wire 10 is another wire 1 1, having a curved or bow-like portion 12 at its lower end for engaging in the bottom hem of the trousers-leg. By making the lower portion in two slidable sections it is obvious that the device may be adjusted for different lengths of trousers-legs. Also attached to the lower end of the pad 1 are divergent elastic straps 13, having clips 14 for engaging with a sock.
A device embodying my invention will be comparatively cheap to manufacture and will not in any manner interfere with the movements of the person. The wires extending down the front will enter the crease at the front of the trousers-leg, and the bow 12 atthe bottom will prevent lateral displacement of the wires.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A trousers-brace comprising a knee-pad 0f flexible material, means for detachably securing the same within the leg of the trousers, a suspending-strap attached to the upper end of the pad, a rod consisting of two sections slidable one upon the other and extended downward from the lower end of the pad, and means on the lower end of said rod for connection with the lower portion of the trousersleg.
2. A trousers-brace comprising a knee-pad of flexible material, springs extended laterally from the upper and lower ends of the pad, garment-engaging devices attached to said springs, a suspending device attached to the upper portion of the pad, a wire extended downward from the lower portion of the pad, and consisting of two sections slidable one upon the other, and a bow on the lower end of the sliding section.
3. A trousers-brace comprising a knee-pad, wire bows arranged at the upper and lower ends of the pad, springs attached to said bows, garment attaching clips secured to said springs, a suspending-strap attached to the upper portion of the pad, a spring-yielding wire extended vertically along the center of and a stocking-supporting device depending the pad, a Wire extended downward from the from said pad.
lower bow and consisting of two telescopic In testimony whereof I have signed my sections, and a wire bow at the lower end naineto this specification in the presence of 5 therepxf. b 1 d two subscribing Witnesses.
4. trousersrace comprising'a rnee-pa means for securing the same Within the leg of JAMES ANDREW trousers, an adjustable rod extending down- Witnesses: ward from the pad and adapted for engage- E. WAGNER,
