MUCILAGE-BOTTLE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 558,543, dated April 21, 1896.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, EDGAR K. WILLIAMS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mucilage-Bottles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, in which similar letters of reference indicate correspondin g parts.

This invention relates to mucilage-bottles; and the object thereof is to provide an improvement in this class of devices, which consists in an attachment for the neck or nozzle of the bottle, by means of which the surplus mucilage may be cleaned or scraped from the brush when the latter is taken from the bottle, so that it will not be necessary to wipe the brush upon the neck or nozzle itself in the usual manner; and with this and other obj ects in view the invention consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed.

The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved mucilage bottle with the cap or cover removed; Fig. 2, a sectional side elevation with the cap or cover in position, and Fig. 3 a plan View of the device as shown in Fig. 1.

In the practice of my invention I employ a bottle A, which may be of any desired form or construction, the neck or nozzle B of which is preferably inwardly directed or contracted, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, and providedwith an annular outwardly-directed flange or rim 0, having in its opposite sides notches or recesses D. Over the neck or nozzle B is placed my improved attachment, which consists of a ring E, arranged concentrically of the neck or nozzle of the bottle and of somewhat less diameter, and consisting of two wires, the central portions of which are bent to form a ring, as shown in Fig. 3, after which the sides are twisted together, as shown at F, and passed through the notches or recesses D, below which the wires are separated and carried around the neck or nozzle of the bottle below the flange O and united at opposite sides, as shown at G,

Fig. 1, and by this means the ring E will be securely held in place, as shown in Fig. 3.

The cap or cover H may be of any desired form, and is preferably provided with a handle K, and the bottom thereof is provided with an annular depending rim or flange L, adapted to fit around the annular flange C, connected with the neck or nozzle of the bottle, as clearly shown in Fig. 2.

The brush M is provided with a handle N, which is screwed to or forms a part of the handle K of the cap or cover, and when said cap or cover is placed in position the brush extends downwardly through the ring E into the bottle, as shown in Fig. 2.

The operation will be readily understood from the foregoing description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings.

\Vhen it is desired to use the muoilage, the cap or cover is removed by means of the handle K in the usual manner, and as the brush is withdrawn it is wiped upon the ring E and the surplus mucilage taken therefrom drops into the bottle, and thus the necessity of wiping the brush upon the inner walls of the neck or nozzle of the bottle is avoided, and consequently the clogging thereof, which results from the mucilage which is wiped from the brush drying thereon.

It is evident that I may use a ring of difierent construction from that shown and dc scribed, and may attach it to the neck or nozzle of the bottle in a different manner from that herein set out, all that is necessary being to provide a ring arranged concentrically of or within the neck or nozzle of the bottle; and it is evident that other changes in the construction herein shown and described may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificing its advantages, and I therefore reserve the right to make all such alterations as fairly come within the scope of the invention.
