UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FREDERICK VAN GERPEN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
MUCILAGE-YBOTTLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 578,123, dated March 2, 1897.
A li ti fil d June 26, 1896. Serial No. 597,073- [No model.)
T0 at whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK VAN GER- PEN, a subject of the Queen of England, and a resident of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mucilage-Bottles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part thereof,
in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts wherever found throughout the view.
This invention relates to mucilage-bottles; and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class with a removable neck attachment which may be removed and cleaned Whenever desired, a further object being to provide a mucilage-bottle with a removable neck attachment which is so constructed and arranged that the mucilage which usually dries upon the neck and by which the neck is clogged or closed and the bottle rendered useless will be deposited on a removable neck attachment, which may be removed and cleaned whenever desired with out injury to the bottle.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, said drawing being a central vertical section of my improved mucilage-bottle and showing the neck attachment in position and also in section.
In the practice of my invention I provide a bottle A, which maybe of any desired shape and size and which is provided with a neck B, at the upper end of which is an outwardly and downwardly directed flange or rim 0. I also provide a removable tubular neck attachment D, which is open at its lower end and which is adapted to closely fit the inner walls of the neck B, and said tubular neck attachment is provided at its upper end. with an outwardly and downwardly curved rim E, which is adapted to fit over and rest upon the rim or flange O on the neck, and connected with the outer edge thereof or formed integrally therewith is an inwardly and downwardly curved flange or rim E, which is provided with a central circular opening.
Between the flanges or rims E and'F is-an annular space G, which opens inwardly, and the flange or rim F is segmental in cross-sec- .and the annular rim or flange F, or the inner edge thereof, extends inwardly and projects downwardly, and in withdrawing the brush the surplus mucilage may be removed therefrom by wiping the same on the said flange or rim,or theinner edge thereof, and said surplus mucilage will drop back into the bottle, and if any part thereof comes in contact with the inner surface of the tubular attachment and becomes-dried or caked thereon said attachment may at any time be removed and cleaned, as will be readily understood, and no mucilage can come in contact with the neck of the bottle.
The cap or cover M is removable with the brush whenever it is desired to use the latter, and the handle K of the brush may be vertically adjusted in said cap or cover in the usual manner.
This device is simple in construction and operation and is well adapted to accomplish the result for which it is intended, while being also comparatively inexpensive.
Having fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A mucilage-bottle, provided with a neck, the upper end of which is provided with an outwardly and downwardly curved flange, and a removable tubular neck attachment whichi's adapted to be inserted into said neck, and to closely fit the same, said neck attachment being provided at its upper end with an outwardly and downwardly curved flange or rim which is adapted to rest upon the flange or rim formed on the neck, and to the outer edge of which is secured an inwardly and downwardly curved flange, the inner edge of which projects inwardly, within the body portion of the tubular attachment, and a removable cap or cover which is adapted to be placed thereover, and through which is passed the handle of the brush, substantially as shown and described.
2. A mucilage-bottle, provided with a neck, the upper end of which is provided with an outwardly and downwardly curved flange,
and a removable tubular neck attachment or cover which is adapted to be placed thereover, and through which is passed the handle of a brush, said cap or cover being provided centrally with a tubular opening through which the handle is passed, and the outer edge thereof, being curved upwardly and outwardly so as to conform to the shape of the inwardly and downwardly curved flange formed on the tubular attachment, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of the subscribing witnesses, this 25th day of June, 1890.
