:W'ITNEEEEE I Ignz'z'ummn William Uz'ncent q A1": .NE'YE WVILLIAM VINCENT, OF IJOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, ASSIGNOR, BY DIRECT AND MESNE ASSIGNMENTS, TO ARTHUR L. MOFFITT, OF PAWTUCKET, RHODE ISLAND, AND WARREN KLECKNER, OF LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
SALT-MOUTH-BOTTLE SCOOP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 535,125, dated March 5, 189 5.
Application filed February 26, 1894. Serial No. 501,599. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM VINCENT, of Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Salt-Mouth- Bottle Scoops, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification. to My invention relates to a scoop to be attached more particularly to stoppers of salt mouth bottles, but which may be attached to hollow stoppers of other forms of bottles, or receptacles, without departing from the spirit of my invention, and my invention consists in certain features of. novelty hereinafter described and pointed out in the claim.
Figure I is a perspective view of a hollow stopper with my improved scoop attached 2o thereto. Fig. II. is a perspective view of the stopper with scoop detached. Fig. III. is a perspective view of the scoop detached from the stopper. Fig. IV. represents a longitudinal section of the scoop and stopper showing construction of the scoop and manner of connecting the same with the stopper.
Referring to the drawings: 1 represents the ordinary hollow glass stopper used with salt mouth bottles having the hand-piece 2 and 0 the annularportion 8 for engaging the mouth of the bottle. The annular portion 3 has the usual hollow center as shown at 4.
5 represents myimproved scoop, the end 6, which connects with the stopper beingmade 3 5 semi-circular in form to conform with the hollow portion of the stopper, from whence it preferably tapers to a point 7.
The scoop is made of yielding material which will permit of the semi-circular end be ing slightly contracted'in connecting it with the stopper, and which will spring outward when, placed in position in order to be held securely in its connection with the stopper, but which at the same time will not prevent 5 its ready removal from the stopper, in case it is desired to clean the same or for other obvious purposes.
I preferably bend the semi-circular end of the scoop back upon the body, as shown at S, in order to give it strength and a neat finish.
The scoop is corrugated as shown at 9 in order to give strength to the same and also to form a rib which abuts or seats against the stopper at 10, to prevent any of the substance within the bottle from passing between the back of the scoop and the flange of the stopper, the convex portion of the corrugated rib being on the back or outer periphery of the scoop.
I do not confine myself to the special contour or construction of the scoop as the same might be changed, as for instance, the scoop might be made in the form of aspatulaif desired, the purpose of the same being identical, viz: that of removing a portion of the contents of a bottle or other receptacle.
By the use of my improvement each bottle is provided with a means for dispensing its contents, without having to resort to the use of the common spatula, which unless thor- 7a ougly cleansed after each use will mix the contents of separate bottles, the injurious results of which are obvious. It also serves to fill or replace all or a portion of the contents of a receptacle and may be used for various other purposes.
By making the scoop detachable from the stopper, the same may be readily removed for cleaning, or to connect it with some other stopper.
I claim as my invention- The combination, with a stopper 1, having a plain hollow center 4; of the removable semi-circular scoop 5, formed of yielding material conforming to the hollow center, formed with an inturned inner edge 8, fitting the base of the hollow center, and with an external rib 9 seating on the inner edge of the rim of the stopper; substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
XVILLIAM VINCENT.
