0. R. HANBR. MUGILAGB BOTTLE.
No. 562,134. Patented June 16, 1896.
WITNESSES: INVENTOI? A TTOHNEVJf NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CLARK R. IIANER, OF GRAND GORGE, NEIV YORK.
MUClLAGE-BOTTLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 562,134, dated June 16, 1896.
Application filed January 4, 1896. Serial No. 574,304. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CLARK R. HANER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Grand Gorge, in the county of Delaware and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mucilage- Bottles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanyin g drawing, forming a part thereof, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to mucilage-bottles; and the object thereof is to provide a bottle or receptacle of this class which is provided with a removable cap or cover having a depending tubular extension connected therewith, which is adapted to enter the bottle or receptacle, and on the upper side of which is placed a tubular attachment through which the handle of the mucilage-brush is adapted to be passed, and within which is mounted a spiral spring which operates to depress the handle of the brush; and the invention consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, said drawing being a central vertical section of a mucilage-bottle provided with my invention.
In the practice of myinvention I provide a bottle or receptacle A, which may be of any desired form, and which is provided with a neck B, in connection with which is employed a removable cap or cover D, to the lower side of which is secured a tube (1, which is open at its lower end and which is adapted to fit within the neck 13.
The upper portion of the removable cover D is provided with a tubular shoulder or projection (Z to which is secured a tube G, and
through which passes a handle II of the brush K.
The upper end of the handle II passes through the upper closed end of the tube G and is adapted to slide therein, and mounted on said handle within said tube is a spring L, the upper end of which bears upon the upper end of the tube G, and the lower end of which bears upon an annular shoulder M, secured to or formed on the handle of the brush.
The upper end of the handle of the brush His provided with a ring 0, and the operation will be readily understood from the foregoing description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing.
The spring L serves to depress the handle of the brush and to hold the brush in the position shown in the drawing, and when it is desired to apply the brush the handle is withdrawn against the operation of the spring L, by means of the ring 0, until the brush is within the tube cl, after which the cover is removed and the spring L is allowed to project the brush from the tube (1 when said brush may be employed in the usual manner.
The object of this construction is to provide means for preventing the brush from coming in contact with the inner walls of the neck of the bottle, and it will thus be seen that I provide means whereby the clogging of the neck of the bottle by reason of mucilage drying thereon is prevented, and it will be apparent that the tube D may be cleaned whenever desired, the removable cover and said tube being preferably composed of metal, and therefore not easily broken.
My invention is not limited to the exact form, construction, and arrangement of parts herein described, and I therefore reserve the right to make all such alterations therein and modifications thereof as fairly come within the scope of the-invention.
Having fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- As a new article of manufacture, a mucilage-bottle provided with an annular cover of less diameter than that of the outer walls of the neck, said cover having about its orifice an upward tubular extension which is drawn in at the top to form a smaller tubular opening and an outside annular shoulder, an elongated vertical tube with partially-closed top having its lower end secured to said shoulder about the said tubular opening, a handle carrying a brush in said vertical tube, a spiral compression-spring within said tube with one end secured to the said handle and the other resting- 011 the said annular shoulder, and u enee of the subscribing Witnesses, this 26th tube secured to the lower side of the cover day of December, 1895.
and projecting down into the bottle, all constructed and arranged substantially as herein CLARK R. HANER.
shown and described. i
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in pres- Vitnesses:
ORRIN A. AIAYNARD, FRANK Z. MACKEY.
