UNITED STATES- PATENT OFFICE.
CARROLL HERBERT REED, OF NEIV YORK, N. Y.
M UCILAG E-BOTTLE.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 568,922, dated October 6, 1896.
Application filed February 20, 1896. Serial No. 580,062. (No model.)
glue-pots, or similar receptacles; and the ob-' ject thereof is to provide a bottle or vessel of this class with a detachable central tube through which the brush is adapted to be inserted, said tube being reversible and provided with a neck at each end, and the bottom of the bottle or receptacle being provided with ribs or other elevations on which said tube is adapted to rest.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, said drawing being a central vertical section of a mucilagebottle provided with my improvement or made according to my invention.
In the practice of my invention I provide a bottle or receptacle A, which is provided with a neck B, and on the bottom of which are formed a plurality of ribs or projections a, and I also provide a detachable or removable tube D. which is provided at each end with a neck cl, by means of which an inwardlydirected annular shouldercl is formed at each end, and said tube is adapted to be inserted into the neck B of the bottle or receptacle so that one of the necks cl of the tube will rest upon the ribs or projections a in the bottom' of the bottle or receptacle. When in this position, the upper end of the tube D will project slightly above the neck of the bottle or receptacle, and I also provide an annular cap 0, the lower end of which is adapted to inclose the neck B of the bottle, and the upper end of which is provided with an annular inwardly-directed flange G which rests upon the end of the tube D, adjacent to the neck cl thereof, and the neck d of the tube D is provided with a removable cap or cover G, said cap or cover G being connected with the handle H of the brush K, and being also adj ustalole thereon.
The operation will be readily understood from the foregoing description when taken in connection with The accompanying drawing. I'Vhen the parts are assembled in the manner shown in the drawing, the brush is inserted through the central tube, into which the mucilage rises to a level with the mucilage in the body portion of the bottle or receptacle, and the position of the cap or cover G on the handle H of the brush will be regulated by the amount of mucilage within the tube D. In withdrawing the brush for use the annular shoulder d of the tube D, and when the end of said tube becomes clogged or the neck thereof closed said tube is taken out and reversed and the lower end thereof placed upwardly and the parts connected in the'manner shown and described, and this operation is repeated as often as the upper end of the tube D and the neck thereof become clogged by reason of the mucilage drying thereon. By means of this arrangement one end of the tube D may be kept clean and ready for use at all times, and my invention is not limited to the exact form, construction, and arrangement of parts herein described, and I reserve the right to make all such alterations therein and modifications thereof as fairly come within the scope of the invention.
Having fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The herein-described mucilage-loottle which comprises a main bottle or receptacle provided with a neck, and a removable or detachable tube which is adapted to fit within said neck, and one end of which is adapted to rest upon the bottom of the main bottle or receptacle, which is provided with means for admitting the mucilage thereto and the other end of which is adapted to serve as a book through which the brush is inserted, said tube being reversible within said bottle or receptacle, substantially as shown and described.
2. The herein-described lnucilage bottle or receptacle, which comprises a main body portion which is provided with a neck of the 5 the surplus mucilage is wiped therefrom on usual form, and a detachable and reversible tube which is adapted to fit within said neck, said tube being provided with a neck at each end, and one end thereof, being adapted to rest upon the bottom of the main bottle or receptacle, and the other end to project above the neck thereof, substantially as shown and described.
3. The herein-described mucilage bottle or receptacle, which comprises a main body portion which is provided with a neck of the usual form, and a detachable and reversible tube which is adapted to fit within said neck, said tube being" provided with aneck at each end, and one end thereof, being adapted to CARROLL HERBERT REED.
