To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, HARRY MosEs CANAN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Altoona, in the county of Blair and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mucilage-Bottles, of

which the following is a specification, refer-' ence being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts wherever found throughout the several views.

In the practice of my invention I provide a bottle A of the usual form, having an extension on at one side thereof, which is provided .with a neck a and the neck a is provided near its top with an inwardly-directed shoulder or projection a and near its bottom with an inwardly-directed annular flange a I also provide a tubular plug B, on theupper end of which is formed an annular flange or rim b, which projects outwardly over the neck a of the bottle, and the tubular plug B or the outer walls thereof are slightly conical in form, said walls being contracted inwardly and downwardly, and said plug is slightly shorter than the neck of the bottle and is provided on its outer side with a spiral flange 12 which extends only part way around the plug, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4.

The upper surface of the annular flange or rim 1) is slightly inclined inwardly and downwardly, and in the lowest position of the plug there is an annular space 0 between the annular flange or rim 1) and the upper end of the neck of the bottle.

In placing the tubular plug B in position it is inserted into the neck of the bottle, so that the shoulder or projection a will pass through the space D between the ends of the spiral flange b and said plug is then given a turn, so that the shoulder or projection a will force it downwardly into the position shown in Fig. 1, and in this position the lower end thereof fits closely within the annular flange (1 formed near the lower end of the neck a and it will be understood that the plug B may be removed by reversing this operation.

The object in allowing the space C between the annular rim 1) and the neck of the bottle is to provide for slight variations in the height of the neck, which may be sometimes occasioned in the manufacture of the bottle, and the concave or inwardly-inclined upper surface of the annular flange or rim 6 is to provide means whereby any mucilage that may fall on said flange or rim will flow back into the bottle.

The lower end of the plug B is high enough when said plug is in its lowest position to avoid contact with the mucilage in the bottle, and by means of this arrangement of parts the neck cannot clog or become gummed with dry mucilage above the inwardly-directed flange a and whenever it is desired to clean the tubular plug B all that is necessary is to remove the same, when it may be thoroughly cleaned and again replaced;

The outer surface of the annular flange or rim b on the plug B may be milled or otherwise roughened, so as to facilitate the manipulation thereof, and it will be understood that any preferred form of brush may be employed, and the handle of said brush may be provided with a cap which fits over the flange or rim b.

Having fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. Amucilage-bot-tle, provided with a neck, near the lower end of which is an in wardlydirected annular flange, said neck being also provided at or near its upper end with an inwardly-directed shoulder or projection, and a tubular plug which is adapted to be inserted into the neck, said tubular plug being provided at its upper end with an annular flange or rim which extends outwardly over the neck, and on the body portion thereof, below said rim or flange with a spiral flange which extends part way around the same, and in connection with which the inwardly-directed shoulder or projection is adapted to operate, substantially as shown and described.

A mucilage-bottle, provided with a neck, near the lower end of which is an inwardlydirected annular flange, said neck being also provided at or near its upper end with an inwardly-directed shoulder or projection, and a tubular plug which is adapted to be inserted into the neck, said tubular plug being provided at its upper end with'an annular flange or rim which extends outwardly over the neck, and on the body portion thereof, below said flange or rim with a spiral flange which extends part way around the same, and in connection with which the inwardly-directed shoulder or projection is adapted to operate, and the outer walls of the tubular plug being inclined downwardly and inwardly substan-- tially as shown and described.

A mucilage-bottle, provided with a neck, near the lower end of which is an inwardlydirected annular flange, said neck being also provided at or near its upper end, with an inwardly-directed shoulder or projection, and a tubular plug which is adapted to be inserted into the neck, said tubular plug being provided at its upper end with an annular flange or rim which extends outwardly over the neck, and on the body portion thereof, below said flange or rim with a spiral flange which extends part way around the same, and in connection with which the inwardly-directed shoulder or projection is adapted to operate, and the outer walls of the tubular plug, being inclined downwardly and inwardly, and the upper surface of the rim or flange at the top thereof, being slightly concave, substantially as shown and described.
