NASAL DOUCHE.

To all whom t may concern:

Be it known that I, JAMES E. MACWIL- LIAM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hubbardston, in the county of Worcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Nasal Douche, of which the following is a specification.

The principal objects of this invention are to provide a construction of nasal douche comprising a plurality of parts telescoping together in a convenient manner so as to provide a chamber for the solution, and an entirelyT separate and distinct chamber for storing a supply of the dry powder to be used; also to provide a construction of this character in which a straining device is conveniently located without taking up any material space and one in which the parts will fit together and be removable from each other in a very simple and convenient manner.

The invention also involves several improvements in other features and in details of construction as will appear hereinafter.

Reference is to be had to the drawings in which the figure is a central vertical sectional view of a device constructed in accordance .with this invention.

The invention is shown in a form in which a container A is provided for the solution. This container is provided with a flange c at its upper end supported from the body of the container by a bead or the like. At the top of this flange is a perforation a by which the device can be hung up on a nail or the like. At the bottom the container is provided with an upwardly projecting tube a2 having a strainer at the top and preferably located centrally. This tube discharges into a smaller tube a3 which is adapted to receive the end of a rubber tube 2 or the like which is provided with the usual nozzle when used as a nasal douche.

, Telescoping into the portion a of the container is a cylinder B having a strainer ZJ in the bottom and provided with a cross bar at the top for lifting the cylinder in and out. This bar preferably is of wire and is soldered or otherwise secured to the opposite sides of the cylinder. This cylinder is slightly tapering, preferably being about a quarter of an inch larger in diameter at the top than at the bottom. the cylinder will descend only to a cert-ain point so that it projects up nearly to the top of the container A. Telescoping over the top of the cylinder B and container A is a receptacle C having a lower flange c for this purpose. At the top of this flange is an imperforate bottom c and above this is an external bead c2. The portion c3 above the bead is for receiving a telescoping cover D. As will be seen from the drawing, the part c of the container C projects down over the portion a, and covers the top of the strainer B sothat the bottom of the lower flange of the receptacle c rests on the bead a4. Thus the strainer B is entirely concealed.

The cover D rests down over the Aportion c and extends down to the bead c2 so that the appearance of the device is attractive and it appears to be a single continuous receptacle with two beads.

In use the powder or other medicine to be used is carried in the container C which with its cover can be removed as a whole from the'rest of the device. llVhen it is to be used the desired quantity of medicine is placed in the strainer and hot water poured through it so as to bring the solution into the bottom of the container. The container can be hung on a nail and used in the usual way. Afte'r use the parts can be put together in the position shown in the ligure and the device Vwill take up comparatively little room and can be carried around easily.

Although I have illustrated and described a preferred embodiment of the invention, I am aware that the principles can be carried out in other ways and that the invention is not limited to all the details of construction or the particular use herein shown and described.

What I claim is 1. As a-n article of manufacture, a device of the character described, comprising a bottom container having an outlet at the bottom thereof and provided with an open flange at the top, a strainer contained en tirely within said flange, and a receptacle having an imperforate bottom and a flange projecting below said imperforate bottom adapted to cover t-he top flange of the container and the strainer'.
