Description

c. E. THOMPSON- SHAVING BRUSH.
APPLICATION FILED JAN. 21. 1915.

WM. 6A 6MJW 1111i tnesses Inventor Aug.
' UNITED sir-Arias PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES E. THOMPSON, OF TROY, YORK, ASSIGNOR 0F ONE-HALF TO FRANCIS H. WAGER, OF TROY, NEW YORK.
SHAVING-IBRUSH'.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, CHARLES E. THOMP- SON, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at the city of Troy, 1n the county of Rensselaer andyState of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shaving-Brushes, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to shaving brushes, and the object of my invention is to provide a flexible cup adapted tobe attached to the ferrule of a brush and catch the water or lather, which cup is so formed and constructed that it may be readily discharged of the lather or water and easily and effectively cleaned, and then placed in proper position for catching the drippings of the rule and because of the bead and the taperbrush; together with such elements and com binations as are hereinafter 'more particularly set forth and claimed. I accomplish these objects by means of the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is an elevation of a shaving brush showing my cup attached thereto in cross section. Fig. 2 is a plan of mycup attachment. Fig. 3 is a cross section along the lines, X'X, on Fig. 2.
Similar letters refer to similar throughout the several views.
The brush, A, is provided with a tapering ferrule, 13, having at its smaller end a bead, L, and with a handle, C, and bristle mate rial, D.
My invention consists of the annular, flexible drip cup, E, made preferably of parts .rubber and comprising an outer wall, H,
and inner wall, F, of approximately the same depth, the inner wall tapering from the bottom of the cup upward, the diameters of the tapering inner wall being less than the corresponding diameters of the Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 3, 1916.
Application filed January 27, 1915. Serial No. 4,638.
brush ferrule, thesmall end of the tapering lnner -Wall resting against the bead, L, at the small end of the ferrule. In order to effectively clean the interior, J, of the cup it. is simply necessary to thrust the outer wall, H, toward the end of the handle, C, causing it to assume the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1, in which position the contents thereof may be discharged and all parts of the drip cup can be readily cleaned. The outer wall, H, may then be forced back into the position shown by full lines in Fig. 1, when it will be in condition to act as a receptaclefor the lather or water that may drip into it from the bristles of the brush. The material forming the cup is such that it will cling tightly to the fer-' ing form of the ferrule, it will be retained positively in position on the ferrule and in use will not slip or be dislodged from its operative position.
Vhat I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A drip cup for shaving brushes formed of relatively thin elastic material comprising an outwardly flaring outer wall and a relatively long inner sleeve flexibly connected together, at their lower ends, whereby the outer wall may be turned back to expose its inner surface, said inner sleeve adapted to he. slipped over the ferrule of the brush and having an area of clinging contact therewith suflicient to hold the cup in place while the outer wall is being manipulated.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES 1*). THOMPSON.
