UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MILO O. CHANDLER, OF IVALDEN, VERMONT.
` OVERALLS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 556,530, dated March 17, 1896..
Application led .Tune 3, 1895. Serial No. 551,436. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MILO O. CHANDLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Walden, in ,the county of Caledonia and State of Vermont, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Overalls; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled imthe art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to overalls.
The object of the invention is to provide inexpensive overalls which may be worn over the usual trousers and it closely to the form and prevent the trousers in front and at the sides becoming soiled.
With this object in view the invention consists of certain features of construction and combination of parts, which will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective view showing the garment applied. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the garment. Fig. 3 is a detail view of one of the leg-clamps removed.
l denotes the body port-ion of the garment, The leg and body portions cover the front and side ofthe trousers of the wearer and are open at the rear to allow of a free and easy movement of the person in stooping when milking, while at the same time the parts of his garment most exposed will be protected. In order to secure this improved garment about the waist of the wearer, I provide a wire 3, which is secured to the waistband of the garment and is adapted to encircle the waist of the wearer and be hooked into either one of the eyes 4, secured at the other side of the garment.
The leg portions are each provided with a rectangular Wire frame 5, the horizontal members 6 of which are adapted to be secured on the inner side of the material, while the vertical members will be left free to be grasped to facilitate in putting on or removing the garment.
When the garment is properly adjusted around the waist of a person, he then bends the wire frame around the legs, so as to clamp the leg portions of the garment snugly about his legs.
A person wearing a garment thus constructed reduces the liability of soiling his clothes to a minimum, While he is permitted a free and easy action of the body, thus making these garments specially desirable for the stable.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
Overalls comprising the leg and body portion open at the rear, awire secured around the waist of the body portion, one end of said wire formed with eyes and the other end with a hook to engage said eyes, and means for securing the leg portions below the knees around the legs of the wearer, said means comprising rectangular wire frames, each having horizontal members secured to the garment and adapted to be bent around the legs of the wearer, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
