- P. O. MENS ING A. DEVICE FOR STRETOHING PANTALOONS.
Patented June 14, 1887..
-UNITED STATES,
PATENT OFFICE.
FREDERIK O. MENSINGA, OF TORONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA.-
DEVICE FOR STRETCHING PANTALOONS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 364,838, dated June 14:, 1887.
' Application filed May 10, 1886. Serial No. 201,692. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FREDERIK OoNsTAN-, TYN MENSINGA, of the city of Toronto, in the county of York, in the Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented an Improved Device for Stretching Pantaloons or Trousers into their Proper Shape or Fashion, of which the following is a specification.
The object of the invention is to design a device for stretching pantaloons or trousers into their proper shapeor fashion; audit con sists, essentially, of a springclamp designed to be attached to the end of the legs of the pantaloons or trousers, and having a hook attached to it, upon which a pair of boots or weights maybe suspended for the purpose of stretching the trousers into their proper shape or fashion.
The drawing represents a perspective view of my clasp in use. v
A represents the bottom of a leg of a pair of pants, and O the spring clasp or frame. This frame is formed of a single piece of wire bent atits middle to form a weight-receiving hook, E, and then the two arms extend upward by the side of each other, and near their upper end are bent outward, as shown, to form out: wardly-spreading spring-armsB B, which arms engage the seam at the bottom of the leg ofthe pants, as shown. 1
When the wearer removes his trousers, he may hang them upon a suitable hook, (not shown,) then insert the arms B B into the leg, as shown, and then attach the weight to the hook E. The arms B B shape the bottoms of the pants while the weight is removing the wrinkles from the legs.
I am aware of the Patent No. 57,077, and make no claim to the construction shown therein as forming part of my invention. I deem it important that the arms BB turn outwardly in opposite directions from each other, as shown, whereby they shape the bottoms of the pants when the weight is on the hooka function that could not be performed by turn- 5 will. be observed that from the point e of the hook E to the point a the two strands of wire are contiguous to each other, thus adding greatly to its strength and preventing undue strain on the Spring-arms. It will also be seen that the points I) of the arms B are turned over and downward, so that when the weight is applied the said points will not protrudethrough the leg of the pantaloons.
VZhat I claim as my invention is- 1. Apantaloons-stretching device consisting of a single piece of wire bent to form an upturned weight-receiving hook, E, at the lower end,and outwardly-spreadingspring-arms B B above, the latter being turned in opposite directionsv from each other, as shown, and adapted to engage the bottom of the leg of a pairof pantaloons, and to shape said bottoms while the weight on said hook is removing the knee wrinkles, and the strands of the said Wire being contiguous to each other from the point e of the hook to the point a, as and for the purpose set forth.
2. A spring-wire pantaloons-stretcher composed of a single piece of wire bent at its center to form a weight-receiving hook, E, the ends of said wire being turned inopposite directions from each other,as shown,to form outwardly-spreading spring-arms B B, and the pointsof said arms bent overand downwardly, as shown and described, and for the purpose specified.
