To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ANTONIO ANTANASIO AGi'IERO, a citizen of Spain, and a resident of New York, county of New York, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Fixtures, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.

This invention relates to curtain-fixtures, and the object thereof is to provide a simple and effectivedevice of this character, which will support acurtain, portiere, or similar article without the use of pins, clamps, or similar devices, and which is also simple in construction and operation and comparatively inexpensive.

The invention involves the use of a pole divided longitudinally into equal or approximately-equal parts, which are hinged together at one side; and in the drawings forming part of this specification, Figure l is a view showing in elevation my improved curtain-pole, the parts of which are hinged together and in an open position, one of said parts having a curtain suspended therefrom; Fig. 2, an end View of the pole with the hinged parts folded together; and Fig. 3, a section on the line a; 00 of Fig. 1. 1

In the practice of my invention I employ a pole of any desired material, preferably wood and of any desired size and form, but preferably cylindrical.

The pole is divided longitudinally into two parts or sections A and B, which are hinged together, as shown at O, and when the fiat sides thereof are folded together the pole is preferably cylindrical in form, as shown in Fig. 2.

Each section or part of the pole is provided on its flat surface or side with a longitudinal groove D, arranged centrally thereof, and when the separate sections are folded together the separate grooves D constitute or form a central bore, cylindrical in form, which eX- tends through the pole from end to end thereof. In the flat surface of one of said sections or parts is also formeda longitudinal slot or groove E, and on the other is formed a corresponding longitudinal spline or projection F,

adapted to enter the slot or groove E when the sections of the pole are folded together.

The central bore in the pole formed by the longitudinal grooves D is closed at each end by a plug or end piece G, which is forinedintegral with or secured to one of the parts or sections of the pole, and to each plug or end piece G is secured a rod H, on the outer end of which is a ball K.

As shown in the drawings, the end piece or plug G is connected with the part B, and pivotally connected with the ends of the other part A is arm M, provided on one side with notches or recesses N, adapted to engage the rod or rods H and hold the sections of the pole together, as shown in Fig. 2.

In securing the curtain to the pole the end thereof is folded or rolled and placed in one of the longitudinal grooves D, as shown in Fig. 3, after which the sections or parts of the pole are folded together, the longitudinal projection or spline F entering the correspondin g longitudinal groove or recess E, and clamping and holding the curtain in position and preventing its removal, the separate sections being held together by the arms M, the notches N of which engage the rods H, as shown in Fig. 2.

The object of the series of notches N is to provide for curtains or similararticles of different thicknesses, as will be readily understood, the sections of the pole being held farther apart by a thick than by a thin curtain.

It will thus be seen that I accomplish the object of my invention by means of a device simple in construction and operation, which renders the use of pins,hooks, clamps, or similar devices unnecessary and which is durable and comparatively inexpensive.

Having fully described my invention, 1 claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The combination of a curtain-pole divided longitudinally into two parts, each of the adjacent faces of said parts being provided with grooves adapted to form together a central bore throughout the pole, a spline F on one of said parts adapted to enter a groove E in the other part, and plugs G integral with the ends of one part and adapted to close the ends of thebore, substantially as described.

The combination of a curtain-pole divided longitudinally into two parts the adjacent faces of said parts being provided with grooves adapted to form a central bore when the parts are brought together, a spline on one part arranged to enter a groove in the other part, plugs G on the ends of one part adapted to close the ends of the bore, rods H secured to said plugs, balls K mounted on the rods, an arm M pivotally connected to the other part and provided on one side with notches or recesses N adapted to engage the rod II to secure the parts of the pole together, substantially as described.
