CURTAIN-POLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 17, 1907.
Application filed May 17, 1907. Serial No. 374,124.
To alltuhom "it may concern:
Be it known that I, CAROLINE BENsoN, of Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Iinprovements in Curtain-Poles, of which the following is The object of, my invention is to provide a new and improved curtain-pole whereby the employment of hooks and pins are dispensed with.
Tothis end my invention consists in a curtain-pole, in the novel features of construction, and in the. com bination of parts all as fullyherein described and claimed. i i
In the accompanying drawing, which illustrates an application of my invention, Figure l is a front elevational view of a curtain-pole constructed in accord-.
ance with my invention showing a curtain in place on the pole; Fig. 2, a cross-sectional view on line 2 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3, a perspective view of a portion of the pole proper and cooperating parts; Fig. 4, a similar view, showing the sleeve portion in a different position from that shown by Fig. 3; Fig. 5, a cross-section taken on line 5-5 of Fig. l; and Fig. 6, a cross-section taken on line 66 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawing, 1 designate a pole proper, made of any suitable material, preferably wood, and provided with a longitudinal slot or groove 2. This groove extends throughout the length of the pole and is preferably rectangular in cross-section, as clearly shown by the drawing. Secured in the slot 2 are two flat curtain supporting rods 3. Each of these rods is pivoted at its inner end to the pole l by means of a pin 4 and is adapted to be swung from the open position shown in the right half of Fig. l, to a closed position as shown by the left half of said figure. The rods are each formed with a cutaway portion 5 near each end.
Located at each end of the pole I employ a cap or sleeve 6 formed with a knob 7. These sleeves are adapted to be placed over the ends of the pole proper and over the free ends of the pivoted-rods and are designed to securely hold the rods inposition. Each sleeve is formed with a slot 8 adapted to receive the free-end of one of the rods 3, and in addition thereto with a slot 9 through which a pinlO extends.
In the drawing I have shown onecurtain 11, of a pair of curtains, for which my invention is particularly designed. To hang the curtains one end of a curtain is placed over one of the rods 3, and then the rod, to-
. gether with the end of thecurtain, is carried up into the groove or slot of the pole, the end of the rod passing through the slot 8 of one-of the sleeves 6. After said rod and the end of the curtain is arranged in the slot, the sleeveis turned slightly, just sufiicient to carry the slot 8 out of registry with the end of the rod.
What I claim is: r
1. A curtain-pole comprising a pole proper provided with a longitudinal slot rectangular in cross-section and with an engaging-pin, a pivoted-rod over which the curtain is adapted to be hung, said rod arranged in the slot, and
a sleeve disposed over the end of the pole and the end of the rod and formed with a slot to receive an end of the rod and with a slot through which the pin projects.
2. A curtain-pole comprising a pole proper-provided with a longitudinal slot and with an engaging-pin at each end of the pole, two curtain supporting rods, each pivoted to the pole proper at their inner ends, and a sleeve at each end of the pole extending over the end of the pole proper and the end of the pivoted rod and formed with a slot to receive an end of a rod and with a slot through which one of the pins projects.
3. A curtain pole comprising a pole proper provided with a longitudinal slot, two curtain supporting rods, each pivoted to the pole proper at their inner ends, and a sleeve at each end of the pole formed with a slot to receive the end of the pivoted-rod and extending over the end of the pole proper and the end of the rod.
In testimony whereof I aifix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CAROLINE BENSON.
