UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ANNA M. 11. come, OFDRAVOSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
CURTAIN-POLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 691,605, dated January 21, 1902.
Application filed Octob r 31, 1901. Serial No. 80,692. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known thatI, ANNA M. H. CULP, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Dravosburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ourtain-Poles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in curtain-poles; and
the object of the invention is to provide a neat, simple, and durable pole with novel means for suspendinga curtain therefrom in such a manner that the point at which the curtain is suspended will be hidden from view when the curtain is in position.
Briefly described, my invention comprises a hollow pole, which may be made of wood or metal, preferably the latter, and is slotted throughout its length along the underneath side. A curtain-supporting rod is inserted in this hollow pole and has enlarged cylindrical bushings on its ends, which fit the bore of the pole, and thus hold the rod centrally of the pole. These bushings carryextensions to receive the curtain-knobs, all of which construction will be hereinafter more fully described, and specifically pointed out in the claims.
In describing the invention in detail refer:
once is had to the accompanying drawings,.
forming a part of this specification, and wherein like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views, in which v Figure l is a frontelevation of my improved curtain-pole, showing a curtain suspended therefrom. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional View of a part of the curtain-pole. Fig. 3 is a transverse vertical sectional view.
In the accompanying drawings the numeral 1 indicates the pole, which is preferably oylindrical and is hollow, being made either of wood or metal, though preferably the latter. This pole 1 is provided throughout its length along the underneath side with a slot 2 for the reception of the curtain 3. The curtain is supported by means of a rod 4, which has near each end cylindrical bushings or bosses 5, made to fit neatlyin thebore of the curtainpole 1, and thus hold the rod 4 centrally of the said pole. The curtain is wrapped around the rod 4 between the bosses or bushings and may be sewed, as at 6, or may be merely hung over the rod. The extensions 7 of the rod project beyond the ends of the curtainpole 1 and are adapted to receive the ornamental knobs 8, which are cored to receive the said extensions 7. Placed on the ends of the pole are threaded sleeves 9, the pole being threaded exteriorly at its ends to receive these sleeves. These sleeves are employed merely to prevent the enlarging of the pole l as when the rod 4 is inserted into the pole with the curtain in the slot 2 and these sleeves 9 are threaded on to the pole the latter will be bound firmly upon the cylindrical bosses or bushings 5, and the rod thus held against longitudinal movement in the pole.
In the practice of the invention it will be noted that various changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the general spirit of my invention.
'Havin g fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
' 1. In combination with a hollow cylindrical curtain pole slotted throughout its length along the underneath side, of a curtain-supporting rod having integral cylindricalbushings or bosses formed thereon to fit the bore of the pole, integral extensionscarried by said bushings or bosses to receive the knobs, and sleeves threaded on the pole to bind the latter on the bushings, substantially as described.
2. In combination with a hollow curtainpole slotted throughout its length along the underneath side, a curtain-supporting rod having integral bushings or bosses adapted to fit the interior of the curtain-pole and having integral extensions to receive the curtainknobs, and binding-sleeves mounted on the ends of the pole, substantially as described.
3. In combination with a hollowpole slotted from end to end along its underneath face and exteriorly threaded at its ends, a curtain-supporting rod having bushings or bosses to fit the interior of the pole, extensions carried by the rod to receive curtain-knobs, and sleeves threaded upon the pole to bind the latter on the bushings or bosses, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
ANNA M. H. OULP.
