Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed July 27, 1911. Serial No. 640,870.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD MoLnNonr, a subject of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, residing at Detroit, in the county of \Vayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Poles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing. This invention relates to curtain poles, and the primary object of my invention is to provide a pole to which the upper edges of curtains can be connected without resorting to the use of rings, pins, or other fastening means that would have a tendency to injure the curtains.
Another object of my invention is to provide a curtain pole to which curtains or draperies can be easily and quickly connected and suitably arranged or draped.
A further object of this invention is to accomplish the above results by a pole that is simple in construction, that is inexpensive to manufacture, neat in appearance and highly efficient for the purposes for which it is intended.
lVit-h the above and other objects in view, the invention resides in the novel construc tion, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed.
Reference will now be had to the drawings, wherein- Figure 1 is a front elevation of the curtain pole in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of a portion of the same. Fig. 3 is a cross-sec tional View of the pole. Fig. 4t is a perspective view of a detached cap or ornamentation, and Fig. 5 is a perspective view of a portion of the pole.
A pole in accordance with this invention comprises a hollow tubular or cylindrical body 1 having a longitudinal slot 2 formed therein extending from one end of said body to the opposite end. The ends of the body 1 are provided with equally spaced notches 3 forming tongues l.
Arranged within the tubular body 1 is a rod 5 of a less diameter than the inner diameter of the body 1, and upon this rod are arranged the upper edges of the curtain Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents.
6, said curtain extending through the slot 2. The rod 5 is of a less length than the body 1, but with the ends thereof in proximity to the ends of the body. The ends of the rod are provided with sockets 7 for a purpose that will presently appear.
To hold the rod 5 concentric relatively to the body 1 and to close the ends of the body, caps or ornamentations 8 are employed and these caps are adapted to enhance the general appearance of a pole. The caps have the ends thereof provided with center pins 9 adapted to enter the sockets 7, said center pins being in the form of screws mounted in the caps. The ends of the caps are recessed,
as at 10, to receive the tongues i, and these tongues fitting in the recesses 10 prevent the caps from rotating relatively to the body 1, consequently the curtains cannot be pulled upon and unwound from the rod 5 within the body 1. The curtain pole is supported by brackets 11 from a frame 12 and these brackets may be of any suitable form.
lVhen positioning the curtain, it is arranged around the rod 5, after which the rod is placed into the cylindrical body 1, the depending portion of the curtain extending through the slot 2. After the rod with the curtain thereon is positioned in the body 1, the caps 8 are secured to the rod and abut against the ends of the body 1.
\Vhat I claim is A curtain pole comprising a hollow cylindrical portion having each end provided with inwardly extending notches to form a series of tongues, caps having the periphery at the inner portion thereof provided with recesses for the reception of the tongues at the ends of said body portion, whereby said caps will extend into each end of said body portion, the periphery at the inner portion of said caps being flush with the periphery of said body portions when said tongues are mounted in said recesses, and rod centering pins carried by the caps and projecting into said body portion at each end thereof.
