CLOTHES LIFTER AND SUPP ORTER FOR WASHBOILERS SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 549,944, dated November 19, 1895. Application filed May 9, 1895. Serial No. 548,631. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, WILLIAM R. THOMAS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Wa= tertown, in the county of J efierson and State of WVisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Clothes Lifters and Supporters for Washboilers, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in clothes lifters and supporters for washboilers.

The object of my invention is, first, to provide a device forloosely supporting clothes while being boiled in such a manner that the water can more freely circulate through and more thoroughly cleanse them; second, to provide a device by which the clothes when boiled and cleansed may be lifted from the boiler; third, to provide a clothes lifter and supporter formed in sections, by means of which a part only of the clothes may, if desired, be removed with one section while the clothes in the other section are being boiled and cleansed.

The construction of my invention is further explained by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure I represents a top view of my clotheslifter in position for use in a boiler. Fig. 11 represents a side view of one of the sections removed from the boiler. Fig. III represents a bottom view of one of the sections. Fig. IV represents a detachable lifting-handle. Fig. V represents a vertical section drawn on line a: as of Fig. II.

Like parts are referred to by the same reference-letters throughout the several views.

A represents a boiler. B B represent separate sections of the clothes-lifter. The respective sections of the clothes-lifter consist, first, in the vertically-arranged perforated metallic plates 0, each of which are curved at their respective ends inwardly toward each other, conforming in shape to the shape of the vertical walls of the boiler; second, in the series of parallel horizontal rods D D at or near the lower edge of the lifter; third, in the vertical series of horizontal rods E E, which form the two opposing partitions of the respective sections and by which the clothes in the respective sections are separated from each other fourth, in the central vertical rodsupporting bar F, by which the partitionrods are connected together and supported at their centers; fifth, in the horizontal connecting-bar G, by which the series of bottom rods D D are connected together and supported, and, sixth, in the metallic drip-plate H, which is connected around its marginal edge to the vertical plate Cand serves to hold such water as may drip from the clothes as the clotheslifter is being removed from the boiler.

J are horizontal detachable rods, which may be inserted at intervals, as desired,across the respective sections of the clothes-lifter, whereby the clothes are loosely supported in such a manner that the water can more freely circulate through and more thoroughly cleanse them. The rods J are supported on their inner ends by the horizontal rods E, and their outer ends extend through the perforations K, formed in the vertical plates 0.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A clothes lifter for wash boilers consisting of the combination of the vertically arranged perforated metallic plates 0 the vertically arranged series of horizontal clothes retaining rods, E E; the horizontally arranged series of clothes supporting rods, D, D; the vertical connecting bar F, centrally secured to the several rods of the series E, E; and the horizontal connecting bar G, centrally secured to the series of supporting rods D, D, together with the removable clothes supporting rods J, adapted to loosely support the clothes and permit the water to freely circulate through them, substantially as described.

2.
