UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
\VILLIAM OSCAR DEMOREST, OF TOWVANDA, PENNSYLVANIA.
DISH RINSING AND DRYINGICRATE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 424,863, dated April 1, 1890.
Application filed June 29, 1889. Serial No. 316,075. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM OSCAR DEM- OREST, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Towand a, in the county of Bradford and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dish Rinsin g and Drying Crates; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and. exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings,'and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of this invention, and is a top view. Fig. 2 is a side View. Fig. 3 is an end view.
This invention has relation to dish racks and washers; and it consists in the novel construction and combination of parts, as hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, the letter A designates the dish rack or holder, which consists of the horizontal axial center bar B, the inclined end braces c, crossing each other through the said center brace, and the inclined dish-retainers cl, projecting upward from the outer brace B at regular intervals to form interspaces to receive the edges of the dishes, which resttherein in a vertical manner. It also consists of the upper brace C, which surrounds the rack A, and which is secured to loops 6 of the end braces c.
The center brace B may be constructed of wood or metal tubing, and is provided with perforations 11 to receive the ends of the wire dish-retainers d, which project upward and outward obliquely at regular intervals from said central brace on opposite sides, as shown, the bearing-intervals between each two projections serving to accommodate the edges of the dishes D, which are placed therein in a Vertical manner.
The end braces 0 cross each other through the center brace in X form to provide the legs or supports 9 for the rack. A turn or twist is made in the said end braces, near their upper ends, to form loops 6, through which the surrounding wire brace 0 passes. The surrounding or marginal brace C also serves as a guard for the dish-retainers, preventing them from beingbentout of position, and also provides a rest for the edges of the dishes.
The object of the invention is to provide a portable rack or stand for holding dishes in a vertical manner, in order that they may be submerged with the rack in a sink or tub containing water for cleansing purposes. While in the rack the dishes may also be subjected to a spray, or water may be poured over them,
without handling the dishes, the water running off the latteron account of their Vertical position. After the dishes have been subjected to a bath or spray, as aforesaid, the rack and the dishes contained therein maybe set'away for draining and drying.
Having described this invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,
A dish-washing rack having the cross-braces at the end, the axial center bar, and the series of outward and upward inclined dish-retainers projecting from said center bar, said crossbraces being formed with loops, and the marginal brace passing through said loops, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WVILLIAM OSCAR DEMOREST.
