DISH-WASHER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 465,070, dated December 15, 1891.
Application tiled April 1l, 1891.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS J. TREW, a citizen of the United States, residing at Macon City, in the county of Macon and State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful DishlVasher, of which the following is a specification.

The object of the present invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive device whereby dishes may be thoroughly washed and drained and held in convenient position.
for wiping after draining.
The invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claim hereto appended.
In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective view ot' adish-washer constructed in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view. Fig. l is a reverse plan view.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, l designates a rectangular frame, open at the top and bottom and constructed of suitable metal and composed of sides 2 and ends 3, and provided at its corners with triangular bracket-plates 4, arranged within the frame and adapted to support a removable dishholding tray The dish-holding tray 5 is supported within the frame, and is rectangular and composed of side pieces G and end pieces7,aud is provided withaseries of parallel bars 8, arranged longitudinally of the frame. Arranged on thetray and extending longitudinally of the same isa main coil-spring 9, extending within a short distance of the ends of the tray to provide open spaces to enable cups, pitchers, and similar receptacles to be placed within it and having its coils secured between the central bars 8 and the two adjacent ones and adapted to receive in the intervals between its coils plates and similar dishes, and the ends of the coiled spring are secured by soldering or similar means, and one or more main coil-springs may be pro- Serial No. 388,612. (No model.)
vided. A small coiled spring 10 is arranged on each side of the large coil-spring 9, and is coiled around one of the longitudinal bars and its ends secured tothe tray by soldering or the like, and is adapted to hold small dishes.
The plates and similar dishes to be washed are arranged in the coils of the main springs and small springs, and cups, bowls, pitchers, and similar vessels are arranged within the main coil-spring and the frame, and the dishwasher and its entire contents are immersed in a suitable receptacle or tank containing the water and a suitable soap or the like. By raising and lowering the dish-washercurrents of water are forced through the dishes and thoroughly clean the same, and after the operation ot washing has been completed the tray is supported over the tank or receptacle containing the dish-water, and the dishes are allowed to drain, and are in convenient position for drying or wiping.
The frame is provided with a bail ll, by means of which the dish-washer can be raised and lowered in the tank or receptacle containing thc dish-water, and the ends of the bail are secured to the end pieces of the frame.
From the foregoing description and the accompanying drawings the construction, operation, and advantages of the invention will readily be understood.
\Vhat I claim is- In a dish-washer, the combination of the fram e, open at the top and bottom and adapted to be raised and lowered to wash dishes, provided with supporting-plates 4, the tray arranged on the plates and provided with parallel bars, the largecoiled spring extending along the tray and secured to the bars, and the small coiled springs arranged on bars at each side of the large spring, substantially as described.
