.,UNnrEnsTATEs PATENT OFFICE.
ALFRED INsINGER, or PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA;
nasignfr ronnonnme msm arm -Pm'rnn To all whom 'it may concern:
I Beit'known `that I, ALFRED INBINGER, a` extraen` of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in tlievcounty of I hiladelphia and State of Pennsylvanimfhave invented a certain new and usefullmprovement in llaskets for Holding Dishes or Plates, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to baskets for holding dishes or plates while they are being cleansed by washing machines, and it has for object to lprovide a simple, durable and inexpensive asket adapted to hold the dishes or plates firmly While inprocess of cleansing and rinsing, and it consists of the parts and combinations of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved dish holding basket. Fig. '2 is a longitudinal vertical section through the basket. Fig. 3 is a llransverse vertical section through the bas- Similar letters' refer to similar parts throughout the several views.

, Referring to the drawings A represents, the top bar and B the bottom bar vof the ends and sides of the basket. The bars named are arranged at a suitable distance apart .and are bent to shape and to form the sides and ends of the basket. The bottom, proper, of the basket is composed of the bars C, D,
and E, extending lengthwise of the basket and having their ends bent upwardly and Vriveted to the to and bottom bars A and B,
the ends of the ars C and D terminating in line with the top bar A and the bars E extending past said top bar and being connected by a ar F in order to form handles for the basket;
Nearone end of the basket a bar G is arranged across the basket and its ends bent at right angles, as at a, and riveted to the Itop bar. The bar G thus serves as a brace or stay for the basket and one of its ends, and serves as a splice bar, to connect the abutting ends of the top bar A;
The` transverse bar G is bent at its center, as at c, toward the adjacent end of the basket, and supports. one side of a wire netting H which is secured thereto by a loop d.
`The wire netting is shaped to form a pocket Bpecication of Lettersiabent. Application med Maren Io, 1908. serial No. 120,251.

. of the upright bars at the end of the basket.
Pamesa :my so, ieee.
At the other end ofthe basket a bar I is arranged across the basket and has its ends bent at right an les and riveted to the top bar. This bar, is bent at its center away from the adjacent end of the basket, 'as at e and serves as a support for a wire netting which is bent to shape and' fits in the end of the basket in order to form a cket therein. The netting J is secured to the ar I by a wire, loop f and to the bent end of one of the bottom bars, ras any,... l
To the inner face of the top bar A `at each side .of the v basket a narrow metalplate K having a series of-lugs h projecting at right angles-therefrom, is secured, saidlugs being j preferably triangular in shape.
To the bars E plates L having lugs i, sinnlar to those above described, are riveted in' the space between the ockets formed by the Wire nettin s H and g which lugs, as best shown in ig. v2, alternate or break joint with the lugs on the top bar.
N represents a cylindrical bar which extends longitudinally of the basket and is arranged a short distance above the bottom thereof and has its ends secured in the central end bar D at each end of the basket. The bar N serves as a stay for the basketl and 'also as a rest or support for the `dishes the edges of which rest against each side thereof,
` as shown in dotted lines, Fig. 1.
stan obliquely in the basket and rest avainst y the bar N. IThis arrangement of the dishes or plates provides for the access of water to arts of the dishes lor plates when the bas et is lowered into the tanks and at the same time insures the dishes or plates being firmly held against movement while the basket is being lowered and 4raised inthe wire nettings H and J 1s to receive artic es of `table ware such as knives, forks, and spoons,
and in which they are loosely thrown and from. which they cannot escape while being cleansed.
Having thus described my 'invention whatv I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A basket for holdindishes or the like having1 bars disposed at t e tog of the opposite si es of the basket provide with spaced l lugs a air of bars disposed upon the bottom of t e asket and provided with similarly s aced lugs, and a rod connecting the ends of bars and avingthe opposite halves thereof t e basket between the top and bottom thereof and located approximately midway the bars on the bottom of the basket.
2. A basket for holding dishes or the like comprising a rectangularY frame provided with side and bottom bars, bars at each end extending across the top of said frame, said bars bein disposed at an angle -to the side disposed at an angle to each other, each half ters of said angularly disposed bars, and bars provided with spaced lugs secured to the bottom of the frame between said andgular bars and u on the op osite sides of sai rod.-
3. `A bas et for holrding dishes or the like comprising a rectangular frame provided with side and bottom bars, bars at each end extending across the top of said frame, said bars bein disposed at an an le to the side bars and aving the opposite alves thereof disposed at an angle to each other, each half of one bar being parallel with the corresponding half of the other bar, bars havin spaced lugs secured to the topl of the frame etween saldangularly dis osed bars, a rod connecting the ends of t e frame between the top and bottom thereof and in line with the centers of said angularly disposed bars, bars provided with spaced lugsv secured to the ottom of the frame between said an lar bars and upon the opposite sides of sai rod, and ai foraminous pocket at each end of said ame.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature,
in the presence of two witnesses.
