It is my aim to provide an article of manufacture that may serve as a holder for articles while being washed in order that the articles maybe dipped in the cleansing water or solution without the hands of the operator being placed in the water.

lVhile the foregoing is the main object, the device may serve efliciently as a scraper to remove adhering substances or particles from dishes, cooking utensils and the like, and also the device may serve as a holder or dip for pastry and other articles of food, while the articles are dipped into boiling grease, water or other substance.

A further object of the invention is to provide an article of this kind that is simple in construction, will prove durable in use, and is capable of manufacture at low cost.

The various advantages and uses of the article will be more specifically set ,forth hereinafter in the specification following, in connection with which specification reference is to be had to accompanying drawings wherein the preferred embodiment is illustrated.

In said drawings: Figure 1 is a top plan view of the article; Fig. 2 is an edge view illustrating one of the end frames employed and a chain fragmentarily shown, and Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view through the parts shown in Fig. 2.

Referring specifically to the drawings wherein like reference characters designate like or similar parts throughout the views thereof, let A generally designate end frames and B generally designate a flexible article-embracing section. Each end frame comprises a transverse fastening bar 1 which has attached thereto curved handles 2 which, it will be noted, provide openings between the same and the bars. Each bar is provided with a plurality of openings or apertures 3. The section B comprises a plurality of longitudinally extending chains 4: which are connected against undue spreading by means of transverse chains 5 fastened thereto. These chains are preferably metallic in order that they may effectively serve as scraping means as hereinafter set forth.

In use, the article or articles to be washed,

when thedevice of the present invention is used as a holder for articles to be washed, are placed on the section B and the end sections A are moved vertically until the end sections are over the article and the section B effectively surrounds the article so that it will not become accidentally displaced. \Vith the end sections in the position just described, the hands may engage the same in order to hold them in proper relation. Thereupon the section B and article or articles contained therein, may be dipped one or more times into the cleansing water or cleansing solution without'lowering the end sections into the solution. It will be realized, therefore, that the device provides a means whereby the articles being washed may be effectively handled without bringing the hands into contact with the water or cleansing solution. In some instances, the article to be Washed may be of such size that its handling will be much facilitated if the edges can extend into the openings between the handles and transverse bars of the end members. It will be realized that the section B is open and that the cleansing water or solution can readily drain from the articles held by the device.

lVhile the device is particularly adapted for the use just described, it is not to be construed as limited to such use. For instance, the device may serve as a scraper when the handles 2 are held inclose proximity and the section B which will then appear as, or have the form of a mass of links in close relation, moved with the links in contact 1 with the surface to be scraped. Also, the device may be fastened over a pan or the like with the section B suspending pastry, eggs, or other articles of food in boiling grease, water or other substance.

In washing, one great advantage gained is that a plurality of knives, forks, spoons or other articles may be held by the section B and simultaneously dipped and washed. As the operators hands do not come into contact with water or other substance, while the device is being; used, all danger of injury to the hands is obviated.

It is to be understood that I do not limit myself to using the device for the purposes specifically mentioned nor do I limit myself to the exact construction shown as changes therein may be made within the terms of the appended claims and the spirit of the invention.

I claim:

1. A kitchen utensil having a metallic holder section flexible to assume a substantially flat position to receive an article and to fold intermediate its ends, said section comprising a plurality of substantially parallel chains being independent of each other at their lower extremities when folded.

2. A kitchen utensil having a metallic holder section flexible to assume a substantially flat position to receive an article and to fold intermediate its ends, said section comprising; a plurality of substantially parallel chains being independent of each other at their lower extremities when folded, and connecting means for the chains above the said lower portions.

3. A kitchen utensil having a metallic holder section flexible to assume a substantially flat position to receive an article and to fold intermediate its ends, said section comprising a plurality of substantially par allel chains, being independent of each other at their lower portions when folded, relatively wide handles, said chains at opposite ends being connected to the handles, and flexible elements connecting the chains intermediate the handles and the lower portions of the chains when folded.

4. A kitchen utensil having a metallic holder section flexible to assume a substantially fiat position to receive an article and to fold intermediate its ends, said section comprising a plurality of substantially parallel spaced chains being independent of each other at their lower portions when folded, relatively wide handles provided with apertures therethrough, said chains at opposite ends having links extending through said apertures connecting the chains to the handles, and metallic chains connected to the said chains intermediate the handles and the lower portions of the chains when folded.
