Description
B. R. MANN. DISH CLEANER '(No Model.)
Patented July 23, 1895.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BRIDGET R. MANN, OF HOLYOKE, MASSACHUSETTS.
DISH-CLEANER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 543,21 5, dated July 23, 1895.
Application filed January 13, 1395. Serial No. 535,326. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
ing Machines, of which the following is a specification. Y
.' This invention relates to improvements in dish-washing machines, the object being to.
provide a machine of this class which shall be simple and inexpensive and easy and satisfactory in its action;
The improved dish-washer consists in constructions and combinations of parts, all substantially as will hereinafter fully appear and be set forth in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the dish washer, showing the cover and the operative parts supported thereby partially swung away from the lower receptacle. Fig; 2 is a perspective view of the removable dish-holding receptacle. Fig. 3 is a sectional View of the dish-holding receptacle with the two racks therein.
The dish-washer comprises the main receptacle or tank A, comprising the partitioned compartments B 0, one for holding soap-suds and being the washing-compartment, while the other contains the rinsing-water.
Within the washing-compartment is set the removable dish-holding receptacle D, which is of rectangular or other suitable form, comprising a bottom, surroundingv sides, and a hinged lifting-bail a. The said dish-holding receptacle is of an open construction, as imparted by the apertures at so, and this receptacle D has the supporting-lugs b on its side walls suitably above the bottom, on which may rest the removable rack indicated by d in Fig. 1. r
The rack has the-longitudinal slats or rods d so that the dishes may be supported against them as their edges rest on the bottom of the dish-holding receptacle. A similar frame 01' rack 11, having slats or rods i is placed in the bottom of the dish-holding receptacle to steady the lower edges ofthe dishes. G represents the part to set on the top .of'receptacle A and to be swung or moved away therefrom in the manner of a hinged or other box-cover, and the same may have a closed or open-work upper wall, preferably a closed one. Said cover has occupying the space at and under one end half thereof a depending open rack II, the same comprising the rigid opposite depending frames ff, the
traversing rods 9 g near the inner face of the cover, and the series of parallel rods h 71. arranged below the rods g. I p
A reciprocatory support j for the dishwasher swabs or mops m m has its slide-support on and along the rods g g of the rack, and to this'support is connected a forwardlyprojecting handle-bar 11-. p v
The dish-washers may consist of bunched metallic rings as common and the supporting stems m of wire, which have supporting engagements on the said supporting bar j. The stems of the dish-washers are restrained from swingingaway from contact with the faces of the dishesby the rods h h. In the operation of this apparatus the dishes are placed in the removable dish-holding receptacle D in leaning positions against the slats (1 with their edges resting on the bottom .of the said receptacle. The receptacle is now placed in the washing-compartmen t, the cover lowered, and the handle is grasped and forced backwardly and forwardly, effecting the abrasive and washing action by the dishwashers m m onthe dishes. The removable receptacle, with its contents, is nowlifted from the suds-Water in the washing-compartment and placed in the rinsing-compartment, and by having imparted thereto in such compartment a few upand down movementsv the dishes are ready to be dried.
If the rinsing-water be heated to a high degree, as compared to the temperature of the air in the kitchen, the dishes on coming out of :the hot water and being subjected to the very much lower temperature of the air in the room have all the moisture thereon absorbed, rendering them immediately dry and avoiding the necessity for wiping.
Of course it is seen that the immersion of the hands in the dish washing or rinsing water may be completely avoided.
The inside of the washing and rinsing compartments B O and of the dish-holders D are of plain and smooth constructions, whereby refuse matter may be readily removed therefrom. The washing and rinsing compartments have the cooks c c for the discharge of the Waters from both compartments.
Having thus described my invention,wl1at I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a dish washing apparatus, the combination with a tank having a washing compartment,-and provided with aframe or cover to be set thereupon, of a removable dish-holding receptacle to be set into the washing compartment, and a part carrying one or more dish washers, which is mounted for a reciprocatory movement by and under said cover and having a handle for imparting thereto its movements, substantially as described.
2. In a dish washing apparatus, the combination with a tank having a washing compartment, and provided with a frame or cover to be set thereupon, of a removable dish-holdingreceptaole to be set into the washing compartment which has the lugs, 19, b, on its inner walls and the slatted frame, (1, supported thereon, and alike slatted frame at the bottom of the receptacle, and a part having one or more dish washers, which is supported for a reciproeatory movement by and under said cover, and having a handle for sliding it, substantially as described.
3. In a dish washing apparatus, the combination with a tank having a washing compartment, and provided with a frame or cover to be set thereupon, of a removable dish-holding receptacle to be set into the washing compartment and whichhas the apertures, 20, 0c,
the bail, a, the lugs, b, b, on its inner walls, and the slatted frame, d, supported by said lugs, and a support having one or more dish washers, which is supported for a reciprocatory movement, on said cover and havinga handle for sliding it, substantially as described.
4. In a. dish washing apparatus, the tank comprising the Washing and rinsing compartments, B, O, and the cover, Gr, having at one above its bottom, all substantially as described and shown and for the purposes set forth.
