.To all whom it may concern:
WILLIAM J. LYNCH, F BUFFALO, NEW YORK.
(DISH-HOLDING TRAY on BAS ET..-
Application filed November 28, 1919. Serial 110.340,!)91.
Be it known that I, WILLIAM J. LYNCH,
. acitizen of the United States, residing in tray removable and applicable to frames of dif- Buifalo,.in' thecounty of Erie and State of New York, have invented new and useful v Improvements in Dish-Holding Trays or .Baskets, of which the following is a specification. I i
This invention relates to a dish holding tray or basket which is more particularly adapted for use in connection with dish washing machines and the like.
The object of a tray of this character which is simple, yet strong and durable in construction.
A further object is to so construct .the that the supporting racks thereof are ferent heights to suit dishes of various sizes.
In the accompanying drawings: Figurel is a perspective .View of my, improved dish holding tray. Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal section thereof, on an enlarged scale. Fig. 3 is a cross section thereof on line 3-3, Fig. 2. Fig. d is a perspectlve view of the lower rack or grate. Fig. 5 is an enlarged horizontalsection on line 5-5,
Fi 2. A
imilar characters of reference refer to like parts throughout the several views.
In its general organization this dish holding tray or basket comprises a main frame or holder having a removable lower rack or grate for supporting, the dishes edgewise and av removable upper rack for supporting the dishes at their sides and holding the same in a substantially upright position.
' The main frame of the basket is prefer ably of skeleton like form and; rectangular in shape and comprises a lower band 10 constructed of angle iron or similar material of the main frame and preferably comprises I a plurality of spaced longitudinal bars 15,
and an upper straight band 11- of any suitable material.
plates or posts 13 aiidl l, respectively.
- The lower rack or grate for supportingthe dishes edgewise is arranged in the bottom carried at their opposite ends by transverse end members 16 removably secured at their opposite ends to the lower band 10 by bolts-17 or other appropriate fastenings. Openings 18 are preferably proyided in the transverse members '16 n this invention is to produce These bands are held in. spaced parallel relation to each other by cor ner plates or posts 12 and by side and end which the respective endsof. the bars 15 Specification of Letters Patent. Patented J 119 1 1920 are loosely arranged. These bars are arranged in parallel relation to each other and their axes are below'the u the vertical-portion of the lower angle band 10, as shown in Figs 2 and 3, thereby preventinglongitudinal displacement of said bars. As shown clearly in Fig. 2, the lower edge of each transverse member 16 rests on the upper surface of the adjacent horizontal portion ofthe angle band 10 and-serves to support the same horizontally.
The body portion of each transverse mem- I ber 16, which serves to support the longitu dinal bars 15 is preferably arranged inwardly from the end portions thereof by oil'- setting said end portions outwardly from er edge of the body portion as shown at 16 thereby affording the advantage of supporting these bars a suiiicient distance from their ends to prevent all possibility of displacement thereof from the transverse members.
The upper rack for supporting the dishes at their sides to hold the same ina substantially upright position is arranged'in the upper end of the frame and comprises a plurality of spaced parallel transverse bars 19 carried at their opposite ends by longitudinal side members 20 removably secured at their opposite ends to the supporting .brackets 21 by bolts 22 or other suitablemeans.
These brackets are riveted or otherwise fastened to the corner plates 12 of the main frame. The transverse bars 19 are preferably arranged in sets of two, the bars of.
each set being disposed in vertical alinement or nearly so with one another. The dishes to be washed are inserted between these sets of upper transverse bars with their lower edges resting on the longitudinal lower bars of the lower rack while theyare supported,
at their front and rear sides by said transverse bars, as shown in Fig. 2; The bars 19 are arranged at comparatively close intervals and effectively prevent the dishes from falling between them'and dropping on the lower rack.
By this arrangement, a" dish holding tray or basket s providedwhich supports the dishes in av substantially .upright' position and presents an open bottom rack and an open upper rack, so
that in transit through a dish washing machine the dishes are exposed attheir tops and. bottoms to the spray therein. Furthermore, the dishes are free from contact with one another, permitting upper and-lower racks for every the same to be thoroughly washed and cleansed, and eliminating liability to breakage. p a
By providing removable upper and lower supporting racks, the sameare readily ap-' plicable to'frames of different heights and thereby accommodate dishes of various sizes,
the disposition of the upper rack with reference to the lower rack depending on the particular size of the dishes to be supported.
This eliminates the expense, of providing basket.
I claim as my invention:
1. A dish holding tray comprising a main frame, transverse end, members removably secured to the lower portion of sa1d frame,
longitudinal bars carried by said end memfframe, transverse end members removably secured at their opposite ends to the lower portion of said frame and having openings irame or opposite ends in said openings, longitudinal -therei n longitudinal supported attheir I side members removably v secured to the upper portion of said-frame, and spaced transverse bars carriedby said side members.
3. Aj dish holding tray comprising a main frame having a lower band, of angle iron,
1 transverse, members arranged at opposite ends of said frame and supported by the horizontal portion. of said band, longitudinal supporting 'bars carried by said end members, longitudinal side membe'rs disposed above said endmembers and bars and re-Q movably: secured to said frame, and spaced transverse bars'carried by said side mem-' bers.-
4. A dish holding tray comprisinga main 7 frame, transverse end members arranged in said frame and each having a body portion ofli'set inwardly from the end portions thereof and provided with openings therein,-and- I longitudinal bars loosely arranged at their opposite, ends in said openings, said bars extending substantiall f from end to end of said'frame and be on said bodilp ortions.
