Description

PATENTED APR.- 28, 1908,
I J: BOTTLE HOLDER AND RACK.
No. 885,806i
APPLICATION FILED APR.B.1907.
Q vi 1'11 cow:

IRVING J. TRUE, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
BOTTLE HOLDER AND BACK.
To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, IRVING J. TRUE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle Holders and Racks, of which the following is a specification.
IIIKhis invention relates to a bottle holder or rac One object is to provide a bottle holder or rack embodying such characteristics that the bottles may be held sufiiciently tight as to prevent rattling and to accommodate bottles of uneven or larger or smaller size.
Another object resides in the provision of a bottle holder or rack constructed and ar ranged to support the bottles firmly in position and to provide for the tempering of the contents of the bottles.
It is still further designed to provide a bottle holder or rack embodying an organization of cooperating elements to provide for the firm support of the bottles and to permit of sterilization of the bottles by inverting the same and holding them in their inverted positions to permit of proper drainage.
With the above and other objects in view, the present invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims, it'being understood that changes may be made in the form, proportion, size and minor details without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
In the drawings :Figure 1 is a top plan view of the invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view; and Fig. 3 is a detail view of one of the hand-hole reinforcing elements.
Referring now more particularly to the accompanying drawings, the reference character 1 indicates the body of my improved bottle holder or rack provided at its ends with hand openings 2, the ends of the body being first slotted and then reinforced by means of the collars 3 having their inner edges turned inwardly against the inner face of the body 1 to hold the reinforcing elements firmly in engagement with the body.
To support the body above the ground, floor, or other support, I provide the elements 4 and 5, each having its opposite end bent to form the feet 6 and secured to diagonally opposite corners of the body 1, the
Specification .of Letters Patent.

the elements 4 and 5 engaging each other at their point of intersection. The body portions of these elements 4 and 5 perform the further function of aiding in the support of the transverse supporting bars 7 secured at their opposite ends to the sides of the body 1 slightly above the lower edge of the latter.
Disposed within the body 1 are separate series of bottle holding compartments 8, each series of compartments being formed by opposite flexible walls 9 bent to form convolutions conforming to the general shape of the bottles 10, each series being secured firmly at their ends to the sides of the body 1 with the walls 9 of the end series of compartments firmly secured to the ends of the body.
By reason of the peculiar formation of the separate series of bottle compartments and their peculiar disposition with respect to one another, being connected not only to the sides and ends of the body but also to the end compartments of the adjacent series of compartments, there is provided the series of tempering chambers 11 between the adj acent series of compartments, each tempering compartment being provided with a closed bottom 12 to prevent the escape of hot or cold water or the resultant water from ice. Thus it will be understood that the contents of the bottles may be tempered either with hot, or cold water, or with ice, and that by reason of the flexible side walls of the compartments, different sized bottles may be firmly supported in the holder or rack.
It will be seen that the transverse bars 7 are arranged one beneatheach series of bottle holding compartments to prevent the bottles accidentally passing through the holder or rack, or rattling, whether the bottles be in proper or inverted position.
When sterilizing, the bottles are inverted, the mouth of the bottles resting upon the cross bars whereby the bottles may be readily rinsed, steamed and sterilized, the aforesaid diagonally arranged elements 4 and 5 greatly strengthening the rack, preventing collapsing of the latter.
What is claimed is 1. A bottle holder comprising a body having closed side walls and open at top and bottom and with supports pro'ecting below the body, vertical bars space apart and disposed within said body and extending from side to side thereof, a plurality of partitions bearing upon said bars and forming bottle holding compartments and with independent tempering chambers between the partitions.
2. A bottle holder comprising a body open at top and bottom, cross bars connecting opposite sides of the body, a plurality of bottle holding compartments arranged above the cross bars, whereby said cross bars form supports for the bottles when in the compartments and with tempering chambers between the compartments, and supporting elements connected to the body and projecting below the same.
3. A bottle holder or rack comprising a body, cross bars connecting opposite sides of the body, a series of bottle holding compart ments arranged over each cross bar, su porting elements each connecting diagonal l Y 0pposite corners of the body and enga cross bars, portions of diagonally disposed elements having feet, tempering chambers arranged Within the body adjacent the co1npartments to temper the contents of the bottles, and hand openings in the ends of the body.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
