have invented a certain new and Improved Skeleton Lettering, ot which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in lettering; and the object of the invention is to design a skeleton lettering more particw lariy adapted for the advertising of goods; and it consists, essentially, offormingsuch lettering cut out so that preferably the base ot' the letters are integral with a base-connecting bar, as hereinaftei` more particularly eX- plained.

Figure l is a perspective front View of a word ent or stamped out in my skeleton-lettering style. Fig. 2 is a cross-section showing the reinforcing-strip for the connectingbar.

In the drawings like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure.

A are the letters comprising in this instance the word Cheviota It will of course be understood that the lettering may be made into any suitable form of wordaphrases, and numbers. Each letter is connected, preferably at its base, with a common uniting-bar A', the lettering being preferably cut out, formed, or stamped up integral with the bar. l provide a reinforoingbar B, which extends throughout the length ofthe bar A and serves to stiften it. Instead of forming the reinforcing-bar separately and attaching it to the back of.' the connecting-barl might simply make the connecting-bar of a greater width and bend it throughout its length practically at right angles, so that the base or reinforcing bar would serve to support the lettering in a vertical position when desired.

My skeleton lettering may be made of any suitable material and is especially useful for advertising dress goods, suitings, and hats. When made of White cardboard orof a cardboard'of a contrasting color to the color ot the goods, such lettering has an exceptionally unique appearance. In advertising hats the ends ofthe bar may be very conveniently stuck into the band. In this case, however, l would preferably use a downwardly extending tongue a, (shown in Fig. 1,) which tongue would be inserted between the band and the body of the hat.

Such skeleton lettering as above described is very cheaply gotten up and may be cut or stamped out in any suitable design of letter or form of words.

What l claim as my invention is- 1. As a new article of manufacture a skeleton lettering comprising a combination of cut out characters and a connecting bar integral therewith in the form of a strip of such width as not to destroy their symmetry and identity extending directly from end to end of the characters and definitely and unalterably 1ixing the alignment and space between them, substantially as described.

2. The combination with the cut out char acters and connecting bar integrally formed therewith of a reinforcing bar extending throughout the length of the connecting bar and affixed to it as and for the purpose specitied.

3. The combination with the cut out characters and connecting bar uniting them as specified, of a tongue extending outwardly from the bar as and for the purpose specified.
