WALTER R. CLARK, OF GLENWOOD, MINNESOTA.
CHECK-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 8, 1907.
Application filed January 14, 1907. Serial No. 352,227.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WALTER R. CLARK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Glenwood, in the county of Pope and State of Minnesota, have invented certain ILGW and useful Improvements in Check-Holders, of Which thefollowing is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in tag or check holders and it has particular reference to a novel clipl designed to be secured upon the decorative band of a uniform hat and to hold an identifying tag, check or badge.
The detailed construction will appear in the course of the following description in which reference is had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, like numerals designating like parts throughout the several views, wherein,
Figure lis a perspective view illustrating the manner of use of a check holder constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a detailed side elevation showing the band in section and the identifying check or label. Figs. 3 and 4 are detailed perspective front and rear views of my improved holder, and Fig. 5 is a central longitudinal sectional view of the same.
Referring specifically to the accompanying drawings, the letter A designates a uniform hat, having the ornamental band a upon which is held the clip B constituting the subject matter of the present invention and supporting and retaining the check or badge b.
The clip B in the preferred embodiment of the invention is formed of an integral section of sheet metal having the material adjacent its upper end bent upon itself as at l to afford a hook which engages the upper edge of the band a as is shown in Fig. 2. The material adjacent the lower edge of the clip B is bent outwardly as at 2 to afford a shelf or ledge upon which the check b rests. The clip B has a portion of the material at one side thereof-bent forwardly upon itself as at 3 to afford a horizontal hook or flange which engages the label b and prevents its displacement. The hook or flange 3 is on the left or right hand side of the clip in accordance with the corresponding side of the hat upon which the clip is designed for use. For the purpose of preventing the accidental displacement of the clip from the band a, said clip has a portion of its material struck therefrom to form a sharpened tooth or spur 4 whichI takes into the fabric of the band b.
Having fully described my invention, l claim:
A clip of the type set forth having its lower end bent to form a ledge, its upper end bent rearwardly upon itself, and a portion of the material at one side bent forwardly upon itself and including a fastening spur or tooth struck from its body portion,
In testimony whereof I ax my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WALTER R. CLARK.
Witnesses SAMUEL OLSON, E. M. WEBSTER.
