SPECIFICATION forming part pf I etters Patent No. 541,681, dated June 25, 1895.
.. Application inea Apri1'25, 1895. zserial No. 547,199. (No model.)
To al@ whom it may concern.:
Be 1t known that I, HERMAN Porz, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city.
the same.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in Suspenders and more particularly to that class known in the art as bracing Suspenders in which provision is made whereby the straightening of the back and shoulders is materially alected.
The present invention has for its object among others to provi-de an improved construction in which a constant tension is so di' vention will hereinafter appear, and the novel features thereof will be specifically delined by the appended claims.
The invention is lclearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this specification, and in whlch Figure l is a perspective view of my improved bracing-suspenders. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal central Section of the rear supporting-pad. Fig. 3 is a perspective Viewfof the aluminum plate employed in the composition of the rear pad, and Fig. 4 is a detail.
Referring now to the details of the drawings by letter, employing similar letters of reference to indicate like parts throughout the several views: A represents the rear bracing and supporting pad which is formed with a centrally contracted portionB and enlarged curved extremities C. At the center or confor supporting the garmentin the rear.`
tracted portion B of this pad A is the external vloop D through which loosely slide the elastic straps E E which are crossed at F and to whose lower extremities are attached the adjustable buckles G G bearing the tabs H H The upper extremities of these straps E E after passing over the shoulders are secured to the non-elastic members I, l which are padded andadapted to pass in front of the shoulders and under the arms when they are continued bytheelastic Straps J J', the latter being adj ustably secured to the extremities C of the pad A by means 0f the buckles K K. Near the central portion of these padded members I I depend the short elastic straps L L which are connected to the front of the garment through the adj ustable buckles M M and tabs lN N, the central tabs O O being provided to support the undergarment.
In FigQI I have shown the manner of securing the buckles K K to the pad A in which the leatherP is secured'within the pad A and projects through a slit therein when it encircles the cross bar Q of thebuckle, and in this way I have preserved a much neater appearance of the pad than if the straps P were sewed to the outer surface of A.
In order to give rigidity to the pad A and cause it to conform with the concavity of the spinal column, thereby making it a supporting medium and at the Same time obviate any great increase ofweight, I have inserted an aluminum plate R between the two outer thicknesses of leather. The inner surface of the pad A is `padded and covered with silk or other suitable material. In Fig. 3 I have represented the form of the aluminum plate.
From the above description it will be seen that the main body of the device with the exception of the rear pad is constructed in in tegral; and further that a free and easy action of the body is permitted by isolating the bracing from the supporting functions of the device, as the rear straps E E may become stretched and slide through the guideD without shifting in the least the position of the pad A. t
The action of the elastic adjustable straps E E in conjunction with the straps J J isin complete harmony with any conceivable po- IOO sition the body may .assume and has a direct tendency to the restoring of the members of the frame to their proper relative positions.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The bracing and supporting Suspenders composed of rear pad A, elastic straps E E sliding through a guide on A, non-elastic padded members I I secured to said straps, and adjustably connected to the extremities of said pad by elastic straps J J', and supporting straps L L depending from said non-elastie members substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The bracing and supporting Suspenders composed of the centrally contracted rear pad HERMAN PUTZ. Witnesses:
