SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 519,760, dated May 15, 1894.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, ANNABEL C. BULL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Peoria, in the county of Peoria and State of Illinois,have invented certain new and useful Irnprovements in Knee-Protectors; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in knee protectors, by means of which a protector is provided being simple in construction, ornamental in design, and practical for the purpose it is intended to be used.

More particularly my invention relates to a protector designed for independent attachment and detachment, thus making and forming a superior article for wear or dress, which is designed to be secured directly under the knee in such easy adjustment as to in no way interfere with the action of the knee, but be ing so held as to conform with and adapt itself to the various positions of the limb on which it is worn, but always maintaining its exact location under the knee cap so that when kneeling the protector will always contact with the surface knelt upon My invention consists essentially of two independent sections so far as structure is concerned, which are designed to be overlapped at their edges and secured together, afnrcated strap and an elastic band, connected with the said sections. The respective sections of the protector have straight inner edges having perforations thereat, it being designed that the said edges shall be overlapped and laced together. Connected with each of the respective sections of the knee protector are the respective ends of the furcated strap, which said strap is designed to be connected at its upper end with a button or suitable supporter at some point above the knee and further provided to form the complete protector with the elastic band connecting the sides of the protector.

That my invention may be more f nlly understood reference is had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a plan View showing the parts or sections of the protector separated or not laced together. Fig. 2 is a view showing the application of the protector which also shows the sections laced together.

In the figures A and B are the sections of the protector formed with their adjacent edges straight, and each having a line of perforations as v 2', &c., the straight edges being designed to be overlapped and secured together by means of the lace a.

O is a furcated strap secured one branch thereof to each of the respective sections A, B, and designed to be secured to a button or clasp on a supporter of the usual kind, and D is a band the respective ends of which are secured to the sections A, B, and is designed to pass around the limb to hold the protector firmly under the knee.

In applying the protector for practical use, it is placed in position in the same manner as the ordinary elastic garter and is caused to be located the protector immediately under the knee cap and connected with a supporter, by means of the furcated strap 0, and

which will provide an adjustment that is convenient and comfortable and requiring but one supporter connecting and to reach the furcated strap 0 the supporter is caused to bear in such position as to render it most comfortable to the wearer and without interfering in any way with the action of the limb on which the protector is worn.

I am aware that knee protectors have been patented, so I do not claim broadly the idea of the knee protector, but only the detailed structural parts, which when combined and applied have certain features of advantage among which is the fact that because of lacing together of the sections there is not the positive rigidity that would he were there but one piece bearing over and on the knee were the sections sewed together, but the sections are enabled to yield, that they may con form to the different actions of the knee when the limb is doubled up which will expand the sections. A further advantage is the simplicity of the attachment, which is the union of the two straps into one by dividing the same for attachment to the two sections and the simpler provision of the elastic bands which altogether produces a very efiective protec tor which will prevent the wearing of the knee of the stocking, which will be both comfortable and ornamental.

5 what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

A knee protector composed of the two sections A, B, formed with their adjacent edges straight and each having a line of perfora- [o tions as i, 'i, &c., the straight edges being overlapped and secured together by the lace a, the furcated strap 0 secured one part thereof to each of the respective sections, and the band D, its respective ends secured to the sections, and designed to pass around the I 5 limb to hold the protector firmly under the knee, allsubstantiallyas described and shown.
