GLOVE AND MITTEN.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, LEVI L. TABOR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Milwaukee, county of Milwaukee, and State of Wisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Gloves and Mittens, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in gloves and mittens.

The object of my invention is to provide means for holding the lining of the wrist portions of gloves and mittens snugly to the wrist of the wearer without distorting the outer covering.

In the following description, reference is had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a view of the inner face of a glove embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional view, drawn on line ww of Fig. 1.

Like parts are identified by the same reference characters in both views.

A is the outer covering of the wrist portion of a glove and B the lining. These parts may be of any ordinary construction. It has heretofore been customary, however, to interpose between the lining and the outer covering on the inner face of the wrist, a strip of elastic tape which is stitched to the covering, the outer covering being gored or puckered as shown at C. This enables the wearer to expand the wrist portion when drawing the same on over the hand, the wrist portion being then contracted around the wrist to a certain ex tent. In my improved construction, however, I use an endless circular band of elastic tape D, which is stitched to the exterior covering along a portion of the inner face of the wristand for substantially the same distance as in any ordinary glove or mitten. But the elastic band or tape D in my improved construction extends entirely around the wrist between the lining and the outer covering and is unattached to either the lining or the outer covering at any point except along the inner face of the wrist portion. With this construction, the wrist is permitted to expand for the passage of the hand therethrough, the same as in an Specification of Letters Patent.

ordinary glove or mitten, after which the elastic band draws the lining snugly against the wrist on all sides but leaves the outer covering loose and smooth on all sides, except on the inner face where it is gathered, as shown at C. By leaving that portion of the band which passes about the outer or rear surface of the wrist unattached to either the lining or the outer covering, a greater freedom of expansion is permitted than would be the case if the band were stitched to either the lining or the covering on the outer side. It also leaves the lining free to adjust itself to the wrist independently of the band and has no tendency to distort the outer covering. The lining, however, will be held snugly to the wrist even though that portion of the band which is stitched to the covering should lose its elasticity, since the elasticity of the unconnected portion of the band will be retained for a much longer period.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. In a glove or mitten, the combination with a wrist portion having a lining and an exterior covering, of an elastic band encircling such lining and interposed between it and the outer covering, said band being stitched to the outer covering only along the inner side of the wrist portion and being unconnected with the covering at all other points.

2. In a glove or mitten, the combination with a wrist portion having a lining and an exterior covering, of an elastic band oncircling such lining and interposed between it and the outer covering, said band being stitched to the outer covering only along the inner side of the wrist portion and being unconnected with the covering at all other points, said outer covering being gathered on the side at which the band is stitched.
